OCTOBER 6, 1910. s s-o-s I e? I z I The price of cotton today, Thursday, is lt'i'a cents per pound in Union. A short crop is being greatly helped by the long price. We feel sure the farmers throughout the county will sow a large acreage to grain this fall. There should be a large amount of oats sown, to say the least. Unless all signs fail the boll weevil will soon arrive. The best way to tight this pest is by preparing for his coming. The best way to prepare is to get in the habit of producing something besides cotton. We are glad the Fair Association decided to hold the Fair in November this year. We have been rained out in October so frequently that we , are willing to change the date in the I hope that clear weather mav prevail. We expect to Ret out a sixteen page paper next week, and bee: to call the attention of our advertisers to the fact that it will be a good time to get in some real live advertising. A fall campaign for advertising will make business better. The number of new buildings now going up in Union evinces the fact that there is a steady and wholesome growth going on. Not only are there a number, o? residences beipjj_j>ut up, but many stores are being remodelled. The good feature about it is that the growth is steady and permanent. Recently the writer visited one of the moving picture shows here to see the production: "The Unborn." The play presents this subject with as great delicacy as it could be done, and should do good. There is a cer tain kind of prudishness which revolts at such a presentation, but ohe cannot help feeling that the presentation was a sermon that appeals to the thoughtful with tremendous force. ~ . .-I We have been giving our readers a vast amount of advertising and the minimum amount of reading matter. The stringent situation in the paper market, together with the dull summer time, made this necessary. From now on we will have frequent issues "> of sixteen pages; thus making up for the past shortage. Our friends are rallying to our S. O.
