Yesterday was so cold and windy there was not much stirring around as everybody enjoyed staying by the fire. As we didn't have any news last week will try to tell all this time. The entertainment at the Bishop school Tuesday night was quite a success and a delightful occasion. Much credit is given to our teacher for it was such a success. Mr. Hope was with us and delivered an excellent talk in favor of the school. A large crowd attended and everybody seemed to enjoy the occasion. We have also purchased a nice piano for the church and surely we all appreciate having it, which will add so much to our church. On last Sunday Mr. Justus brought his cornet and we had some fine music. The Woodrow Wilson society held its regular meeting Saturday night. Owing to the weather the crowd was small, but next Saturday we are going to have an interesting program, so all members and friends are urged to be present. The farmers are now busy preparing for spring and hope soon to have the plows running. Mrs. W. W. Sumner returned to her home in Union Sunday after spending the week with her daughter, Mrs. .Tas. Whitlock. Miss Dora and Miss Allie Whitlock spent the week-end 'ith Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Whitlock. Miss Sara Whit'ock came home from Wi'nthrop to spt id the holiday. Varn, Formerly of Valdosta, Killed at His Home Near Durango, Mexico. Washington, Feb. 29.?The murder of Grover C. Varn, an American, by i Villa forces at his home 25 miles from Durango, was reported officially today to the state department. No other details were given. LONG A RESIDENT. Valdosta, Ga., Feb. 29.?Grover C. Varn, reported in state department dispatches at Washington as having i hen murdered by bandits near Durango, Mexico, was hanged by them, according to messages received by members of the family here, Mr, Varn, who is said here to have been .14 years old and unmarried, had been in Mexico a number of years. He and his brothers, J. W. Varn, Jr., ? whom he was seeking to join, and George W. Varn, who recently reI turned from Mexico to his former home near here, were said to own val< uable ranch and mining properties \ near here, were said to own valuable I ranch and mining properties near Durango. London, Feb. 28.?Only 2G0 were saved of a total of 411 passengers and crew on the liner Maloja which struck a mine and sank within one-half of an hour, two miles off Dover yesterday.
