JONESVILLE
Jonesville, Feb. 15.?We had a good
week for the farmers, they began to
plow Friday and the roads were getting
in good order so that hauling
could be done with some satisfaction.
The automobiles were getting around
lively and things generally were improving
but today we get a set back,
as it has been a rainy, sloppy day
and all out door work suspended.
One of the Southern Railway officials
was here today and he gave out the
pleasing news to our people that
train No. 28, known as the Carolina
Special, <*oing south would soon begin
to stop regularly at this station.
This is very satisfactory to our people
and will give us good passenger
service.
I wish to give my views on the
good roads subject and the floating
of the $200,000 of bonds in this
county for that purpose. Most assuredly
I am in favor of good roads,
but will the proposed bond issue give
us good roads all over the county,
the cross country roads that leads
through the rural parts of the county,
and to the farmer's door? Well the
act does not say so, neither does it
make any provision for that purpose,
but specifies public thoroughfares
upon which the money is to be used
and this looks very much to me like
class legislation, that is to say, make
one part of the county pay tax to
keep up good roads for another part
of the county. We really had good
roads all last summer and fall and
up to the last week in December ihe
roads were in good condition and a
team could pull all that could be
piled upon a watron and the auto.
mobiles and motorcycles could go
without speeding, but its true for
about two months the roads have been
bad but all or most all the time it
has been raining and when we have
rain about every other day, we will
have bad roads. I have been in Columbia,
Spartanburg and Union during
the past rainy season and many
of the streets and sidewalks were so
muddy and bad it was almost impossible
to travel them, and if a city
can not have good streets, how can
we expect to have them all over the
county. Our taxes are just awful
high now, we of Jonesville are paying
24 mills and then to take on
more and especially at this unusual
stress in money matters, would begin
to look like it would take about all
some people have to pay their tax.
Many people in the county have not
paid their tax yet and 1 think it will
be time enough after we pay our tax
to vote any more extra taxes. So
I am opposed to the bond issue and
shall cast my ballot against it. Of
course, recognizing the fact that
every voter has the right to vote as
he pleases.

MOTHER! THE CHILD
IS COSTIVE, BILIOUS
Don't hesitate! A laxative is necessary
if tongue is coated, breath
bad or stomach sour.
No matter what ails your child, a ,
gentle, thorough laxative should always
be the first treatment given.
If your little son is out-of-sorts,
half-sick, isn't resting, eating and
acting naturally?look, Mother! see if
tongue is coated. This is a sure sign
that its litle stomach, liver and bowels
are clogged with waste. When
cross, irritable, feverish, stomach
sour, breath bad or has stomach-ache
diarrhoa, sore throat, full of cold,
give a teaspoonful of "California
Syrup of Pigs," and in a few hours
all the constipated poison, undigested
food and sour bile gently moves out
of its little bowels without griping,
and you have a well, playful child
again.
Mothers can rest easy after giving
this harmless "fruit laxative," because
it never fails to cleanse the little
one's liver and bowels and sweeten
the stomach and they dearly love its
pleasant taste. Full directions for
babies, children of all ages and for
grown-ups printed on each bottle.
Beware of counterfeit fig syrups.
Ask your druggist for a fifty-cent 1
bottle of "California Syrup of Figs;"
then see that it is made by the "California
Fig Syrup Company."

Renewed Shocks in District Devastated
by Disaster of Some
Weeks Ago. *
Rome, Feb. IB.?Renewed earth
shocks occurred today in parts or
central Italy visited by seismic dis- 1
turbances several weeks ago. ,
One person was killed and six injured
in the collapse of a house at
Na/.ahano.
At Rocca Sinibaldi the belfry of
the convent of Santa Maria fell upon
several houses burying 10 persons.
Citta Ducale was wrecked and at
Veroliz several houses were rendered
uninhabitable.
Since the recent disaster the district
has been shaken almost daily.
Today's disturbances occurred early
in the morning, but not until tonight
was it learned how serious had been
the shock.
The population of Ci'tta Ducale is
, camping in the open air despite a
torrential rain. There are about 2,000
persons in the town, which iz in the
province of Aqula, five miles east of
Rieta.
