FARMERS WILL MEET /
AT EACH COUNTY SEAT
Fertilizer Practices and Economy to
be Discussed Throughout State
on February 13th.
Clemson College. Jan.?. "Fertilizer
and Economy Day" will be
held in each county seat in South
Carolina on Saturday, February 13.
This announcement is made bv W.
W. Long, state agent of demonstra
tion and director of extension at
Clemson College. At each county
seat a meeting will be held and there
will be addresses on the two topics
mentioned in the name of the occasion.
Mr. Long urges that all far
mers note the day and make inquiries,
of their county agents or others,
for the particulars of the meeting,
in order that they may attend
and join in the exchange of ideas
on these two very important subjects.
The extension and demonstration
forces of Clemson College had planned
to hold "Economy Day" in South
Carolina at an earlier date and it
- was announced that such a "day"
would be held the latter part of December.
Mr. Long, saw however,
that unexpected increases in the bur
' dens of the organization were going
J to make necessary the postponement
1 of this occasion. Just at that time.
5 also, there began to pour into various
ofTices at Clemson College re.
quests for information about what
j fertilizers to use under present ab- __
normal conditions. Farmers by the
hundreds have been seeking infor- N<
s mation from the college on the fert
tflizer practices to be followed in T1
1015. The demand became so larg* R?*
,f that Prof. J. N. Harper, dean of the y
3 agricultural department, prepared a
special bulletin on the subject and A
copies of this bulletin, Extension Ti
^ Bulletin B, are to be had upon ap- O!
6 plication to the extension division.
Because of the conditions existing _
?, Mr. Long decided to put off the
d "Economy Day#' program and to <
h combine it at a later date with a <
program on which information on
fertilizers would be given to far- *
? mers. This date is February 13 and <
w the occasion has been named "Fer- i
tilizer and Economy Day." The
* i mettings will be addressed by speak- *
|e ers who will confine themselves to <
it short, practical addresses. "We can
r- promise those who attend that there
will be no long speeches," said Mr.
, Long.
"Fertilizer and Economy Day" is
.. to be as much for farmer's wife
1 as for the farmer. Much thougnt
1 has been given by experts at Clemrd
j son to the preparation of an outline
a- of methods in which saving can be
rd effected on the farm and in tne farmhouse.
Mr. Farmer is urged to
in bring Mrs. Farmer to the meeting
0. with him.
' fosters will be prepared and pla
'Ced in conspicious positions throughout
the state and the meetings will
in oher ways be brougnt to the r
attention to the public. The idea (
xo has very strong support among ?
those who have been consulted for 0f
their opinions. Leading bankers 1
ith have expressed themselves as on.
,ro thusiastic over the prospects for good
results from meetings of the sort
proposed.
