JUST SIT STEADY, * SAY CONGRESSMEN Lever and Ragsdale Confer With Garrison?Talk About Militia. (Wednesday's State.) Officers and men continued their fight yesterday to save the South Carolina National Guard. Every effort will be used to retain the $200,000 worth of property now in the possession of the 31 companies in the State. The secretary of war will be asked to suspend action in the matter of federal property until after the inauguration of Richard I. Manning as governor. W. W. Moore, adjutant and inspector general, left yesterday afternoon for Washington, where he will confer with the chief of the division of militia affairs with reference to the militia situation in this State. Order of Disbandment. Following order signed by the governor and Adjutant General Moore was sent to company commanders of I the National Guard: "Under the provisions of section 18', military code of South Carolina, it is hereby ordered and ordained: That all of the militia of the State of South Carolina and all of the volunteer militia of the said State be, and they are hereby, dissolved, mustered out and disbanded. This order to take effect immediately." "Sit steady in the boat," was the substance of a telegram received in Columbia yesterday by A. E. Legare. colonel, commanding the Second infantry of the National Guard, from Congressman Lever and Ragsdale. The congressmen said that a conference had been held with war department officials and that a letter was to follow with reference to the militia >ituation in this State. Itinerary for Inspection. A I M i 4 lujuiant ucucuii muure yesieroav sent out the itinerary for the annual inspection of the National Guard. The inspection will bepin in a few weeks. Col. Lepare announced yesterday that the order of the povernor musteri'np out the companies would not affect the annual meetinp of the National Guard association, which is to be held in Columbia January 20. Hamilton and sons, Jo and John, left Monday evening for Florida to spend the winter. They will visit relatives in Jacksonville for a while and from there will go to Petersburg to visit Mrs. Hamilton's mother and other relatives. Citation to Kindred and Creditors. Calvin Goodwin, a well-known white 1 farmer, was shot and killed, and George Rish, also white, is charged with the killing, that occurred in the lower section of the county Friday mornig, the scene of the homicide being the home of Fickling Sharpe. From the evidence adduced at the inquest, which was conducted by Coroner Weed, it seems that Goodwin was under the influence of whiskey; that he went to the home of Sharpe, where Rish was,and trouble between the men arose, resulting in Rish leaving the house, followed by Goodwin, and that the two men had some words. It is said that Goodwin caught hold of Rish and, it is claimed, attempted to strike him.
