Mr. Hayne Smith, of West Springs, was in Union Thursday on business. Mr. Lewis Rodger, of Columbia, was in Union la6t week on business. Mr. James B. Rodger spent several days last week with relatives in the city. in Union for a short while last Friday. Miss Lila Thompson of Quitman, Ga., is the guest of Mrs. W .H. Perrin. Berry and Mr. John Storm, have purchased new Ford cars through J. F. Burbank. Miss Amey Allan has returned to her home in Charleston after a visit to Miss Amey Nicholson. Miss Mae Smith, of Winthrop College, spent the week-end with hei mother, Mrs. Miles Smith. Miss Pearl Goforth, who is teaching at Cedar Bluff, spent the weekend with friends in Kelton. Mr. Ryan Jeter, a student at Furman University, spent the week-end with home folks at Santuck. Miss Evelyn Lewis returned to her home in Blacksburg this week after several weeks spent in the city. Miss Clarice Tinsley has returned to her home after a visit to relatives: at Whitestone and Spartanburg. Dr. and Mrs. O. L. P. Jackson left i this week for a two weeks visit to I Mrs. Jackson's mother at Mullins. j Capt. John S. Reid, of thu Gibbes Machinery company, Columbia, S. C, was in Union on business last week. Miss Lulu Haile left for her home in Kershaw this week, after a visit' to Mrs. P. B. Barnes on South Church [ street. Miss Mattie Lake has accepted a position with "The Quality Shop" ati this place, and began her duties Mon-j day morning. Mr. L. G. Townsend has rented the McNeace home on the corner of Church and South street, and will move in at once. Mr. H. H. Hicks, who has been con fined to his bed for more than twelvd weeks, is now recovering and is able to be up and around again. T. T. Kearns, of Cross Anchor, has: some very pleasant words for 11* along with his renewal, and we greatly appreciate his good will. Mrs. H. S. Adams and little son, Henry, returned to their home in Chester Friday, from a few days visit to Mrs. B. G. Clifford at the Seminary. Rev. A. B. Kennedy was visiting; friends in Union Wednesday. Mr.; Kennedy was on his way to Columbia! after visiting his mother near Sulphur J Springs. Mr. R. A. Jones has purchased the! W. A. McNeace cottaire next door to! the library on South street. Mr. Jones has occupied this house for the past seven years. Mrs. D. A. Boyd was called home last week on account of the serious illness of her brother, Mr. Swinlon Dove .who lives in Darlington. He was much improved when she reached there. Misses Mamie Young and Natalie Hunter, of Converse College, are at home for the Spring holidays. Mr. F. A. Marshall and daughter, Mrs. L. Shiver, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. W. T. Ravenscroft. Mr. Marshall is gospel singer with Evagelist McLcndon. Mr. Miles F. Storm returned Sunday from a several week's trip through the Carolinas and Georgia for a film exchange in New York, for whom he acts as special representaiu: *. At a meeting of the City Democratic Executive Committee held on March 27th, 1914, the following were appointed as enrolling officer for the various wards: Ward one: E. D. Humphries store, E. D. Humphries enrolling officer. Ward two: Union Shoe Company, W. H. Perrln enrolling officer. Ward three: Farr & Thomson's store, W. J. Jolly enrolling officer. Ward four: Toney's Market, H. M. Toney, enrolling officer, i The books for enrollment will be opened in each ward at the places I designated from 10 a. m., until 7 p. m., April 14th to 18th, both inclusive. The voters of the respective wards must present themselves in person in order to be enrolled. Qualifications for being eligible for enrollment: Voter must be a resident of the State of South Pumiuo 4? vyt*i vyi Ilia tWU |yearB, a resident of the city of Union one year, and a resident of the ward in which he ofTers to enroll for 30 days, and produce and exhibit his State and County registration certificate and hl9 receipt for city taxes last due. And in case of an applicant having lost his State and County registration certificate he may be enrolled by signing an oath that will be furnished by the enrolling officer of his ward. In the event of any voter swearing that he is a | qualified voter and having voted as such, that if sufficient proof is brought against him that he is not, and has unlawfully voted, then he I will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Each candidate for the various offices are assessed as follows: Candidate for Mayor, $20; candidate for alderman, $10; candidates for commissioner of public works, $15. Colton at noon, May 4th, and take the oath of ofllce and receive other instructions. All persons who are not enrolled by the enrolling officer mnv meet with the executive committee on April 21st at 8 p. m., for the purpose of Retting enrolled, if they so desire, and possess the proper qual- .
