Baraca Claaa Gives Banquet.
The Baraca class of the First Baptist
church will give an elaborate
banquet in the Sunday school rooms
)f the church Thursday evening Jan.
22. Quite a program has been prepared.
One feature of the banquet
will be responses to toasts by several
former pastors of the church. One
hundred and twenty plates have been

Death of a Little Boy.
Paul Robert, the 20-months-old son
of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Lybrand, died
at the home of its parents, here
Thursday, Jan. 15, and was buried
the following day. The little child
was sick for several months and was
operated upon in an effort to savo
his life but all that could be done was
of no avail.
The burial was in the city cemetery,
Rev. W. L. Gault, assisted by
Rev. J no. F. Matheson and Rev. .L.
L. Wagnon, conducting the funeral.
A Painful Accident.
Mr. Clarence Sawyer happened !o
a very painful and severe accident
last week, on train No. 41, going to
Spartanburg. Mr, Sawyer is just '-recovering
from a long illness and had
been in Union on a visit to his brother,
Dr. W. E. Sawyer. The crowded
and heated car caused him to frlnt
and as he fell his head struck {he
window, inflicting a painful wound.
When the train reached Spartanburg,
he was immediately carried to the
city hospital and Riven the best, of
medical attention. The wound while
inful is not considered serious hnd
Mr. Sawyer resumed his journey the
next morninR to Anniston, Alabama,
where he goes in search of health.
His friends here rejoice that he escaped
permanent injury.
