Among the visitors to the fair from
Union are Dr. V. R. Hawkins. Dr. D.
H. Martin, Dr. W. E. Sawyer. These
young men went for the football
game between Carolina and Clemson
and for the state ball.
Rev. L. L. Wagnon preached for
the congregation of the First Presbyterian
church on' Sunday morning.
Miss Ruth Goode has returned to
her home in Gaflfney after a visit to
Miss Eileen Montgomery.
Mr. L. E. Hodge, who lives just on
the outskirts of Union, brought us a
well-formed twin cotton boll, bearing
ten locks of cotton. The bolls are on
one square, but each is a separate,
well-formed boll with five full locks.
Athletic Association Formed.
The Union high school perfected
the organization of an Athletic Associantion
this week. Ted Wallace
is president, E. C. Morgan, treasurer.
The grounds are being prepared at
the High school for football, basket
ball and other out-door games. Much
enthusiasm is being shown in this
department as well as all other departments
of the school.

Tuesday afternoon, October 21, at
6:30 o'clock Miss Olive Pauline Kelly
and John H. Peterson were married
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
Pan>ott, a sister of the bride. The
fertraony was performed by the Rev.
D. M. Fulton, pastor of the Presbyterian
church of Darlington. Owing
to a recent bereavement in the family
of the bride the wedding was very
quiet, only the immediate families
and a very few friends of the young
couple being present. The wedding
march was played by Miss Louise
Parrott. Immediately after the ceremony
Mr. and Mrs. Peterson left for
Florence in an automobile. They will
spend several weeks in southern
points, after which time they will be
at home to their friends at Union,
The bride was married in a handsome
gown of white meteor. After the
ceremony she donned a handsome
traveling suit of black chiffon broadvloth.

Death of Mr. R. S. Cook.
BLACKSBURG, Oct. 25.?R. S
Cook, a well known Gaffney mer
chant, died at his home on Grannrc
street this afternoon at 7 o'clocl*
after an attack of paralysis. This
was the second attack that he hac
sustained. Mr. Cook was 67 years oi
age and known all over the Piedmont
section of South Carolina. He cam?
to Gaffney originally from Unior
county but had lived in Gaffney foi
the last 29 years. He was* prominent
in church, social and fraternal circles
and was one of Gaffney's most
popular citizens. Mr. Cook had beer
ill for some time but it was not
known that his condition was serious
He sustained the stroke at 6:3(
o'clock and the end came about on<
