JttirW needed in this immediate neighborhood while in some sections there has been plenty. The rains have been very partial all the summer. There was a neighborhood picnic at the Mabry school house, four miles north of Jonesville, last Saturday and there was a la*-ge crowd of friends and neighbors who met together to enjoy the day, socially; these gatherings bring the people nearer together and produces much peace and harmony. Mr. W. T. Littlejohn got a fall a few days since, which shook him up and made him quite sore from which he has suffered considerably. There was in the News and Courier ' a fpw HflVS a (TA a atofomonf 4-Unf ? man by the name of Jonathan J. 1 Pratt, formerly of Union county and 1 later of Alabama, who died several years ago, was the inventor of the typewriting machine. I well remem- 1 ber John J. Pratt, he lived at Union and was Ordinary of this county in the late forties and up to 1850. He 1 was a brother-in-law of Col. Zack Herndon. Col. Herndon, I thing * married Pratt's sister. I did , not know that he was possessed with < any mechanical ingenuity, but he was < a shrewd business man. He moved j from Union to Alabama when I was . 1 a boy and I think it was about the 1 year 1850. ' Mrs. Lula Crawford has returned j from Bonham, Texas, where she has , been for the last month looking af- 1 ter her interest in lands and other 1 property in that state. Mrs. Carrie Alman has returned . from Knoxville, Tenn., where she has j been attending the summer school. Mr. E. M. Penny, of Pacolet, spent the week-end in Jonesville. Sunday was an off day at the churches here, there was not a sermon preached in the town at any of 1 the white churches, but the colored j folk had a big congregation at their j church, as it was the beginning of i their summer meeting which will 1 continue for about two weeks. Miss Susie Boyd, of near Birming- , ham, is visiting her mother, Mrs. i Margaret Fowler and other relatives i about Jonesville. . ] mrs. Vs. Vs. i-awson, of near Jonesville, has been suffering for some j time with pellagra and will go to the city hospital in Columbia today for treatment. / t Mr. M. M.
