Bloody Shirt in Negro's Home. A blood-stained shirt, which the detectives say they found at the home of Lee, was shown to the negro this afternoon in an effort to break him down. The negro admitted the shirt was his, but declared that he had not seen it before for two years. Lee was under a grueling fire of questions all day. Shortly before Superintendent Frank was brought to the station Detective Black came from the home of Lee. He carried a package under his arm. He would divulge its contents, but very soon after it was obtained Frank was under errest and Lee was confronted with the garment. A Marriage. The insurance commissioner during the last three months has collected from the fire insurance companies, and turned into the State treasury, the one per cent on fire premiums collected in 41 towns in this State. The total which will be paid to the fire departments for this fiscal year is $12,690.82. This is an increase of about$l,000 over last year when $11,782.57 was distributed among the fire departments. The State treasurer will make remittance of these amounts to the treasurers of the various towns entitled to the same. There is also in the hands fcof the State treasurer the amounts due to the several county treasurers in the State. This will be apportioned in a few days. The total collections of the insurance department from the insurance companies for the three months ending March 31, 1913^ amounted to 5100,302.93. For the same period in 1912, $92, 313. 60 was collected, showing an increase in 1913 over 1912 of 57,989.33.?The State. Union's share of these premiums will be $170.32. ' Winthrop College SCHOLARSHIP and ENTRANCE EXAMINATION The examination for the award of vacant scholarships in Winthrop College and for the admission of new students will be held at the County Court House on Friday, July 4, at 9 n m. Applicants must be not less than sixteen years of age. When Scholarships are vacant after July 4, they will be awarded to those making the highest average at this examination, provided they meet the conditions governing the award. Applicants for Scholarships should write to President Johnson before the examination for Scholarship examina lion blanks. Scholarships are worth $100 and free tuition. Mrs. Davis Jeffries was elected vice-president in place of Miss Mary Emma Foster, who resigned. Mrs. J. Frost Walker sang a beautiful selection and Misses Sydney Gage and Vivian Sarratt gave several numbers. An interesting talk by Mrs. Barnes was a feature of the program and a reading by Mrs. Louis M.
