BABY MARRIAGE IS NOT A SUCCESS. Atlanta, April 8.?"A marriage of children," is what Judge W. D. Ellis called the. unhappy union that landed Ruth Clay, a 16-year-old girl in the divorce court this morning. The girl was in short dresses and looked scarcely more than 14. As the girl took the stand to testify against the 17-year-old boy with whom she had run away and got married, Judge Ellis Raid* "Why shs karat passed the chewing gum stage! Child, please take that chewing gum out of your mouth so the jury can understand you." Mrs. Clay, who is rather sweetlooking and has soft brown eyes, told the jury how the boy she married refused to work, but made her work for both of them, and how he used to take earnings away from her every Saturday night. One night, she says, he kicked her out of bed. The girl, who was only 14 years old when she was wed, was married to the 17-year-old boy on a license produced by a friend of the groom. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. C. L. Crumley, a Methodist minister in good standing. Judge Ellis commented on the pity oi sucn cniia marriages. Mrs. Olay's case was only one among ninety-four mismated couples, young and old, who appeared before the superior court judge to ask for separation. H. A. Owen got a diverce on the queer grounds that his wife was in the habit of calling up police headquarters and having him arrested. Mrs. Lucius Crawley got a divorce on the ground that her husband * threatened to kill their little baby because it cried and kept him awake at night. TRANSFERS FUNDS OF STATE Treasurer Calls in Deposits to Pay Extraordinary Expenses?Pensions are Due This Week. Deposits in 70 banks throughout the State, aggregating $350,000, were transferee! to Columbia yesterday upon the order of S. T. Carter, State treasurer, to meet the extraordinary expense of the State government. The pension appropriation by the general assembly amounts to $250, 000, which will have to be paid within the next week. The two large buildings are to be completed by Sept. 1st, at which time the school expects to open. The Belton Neys says: "Love is blind, but that is no excuse for it to be hard of hearing." Spartanburg's proposed bond issue of $100,000 for street and sidewalk improvements will be submitted to the people. This was unanimously agreed upon by the city fathers. Accordingly the city attorneys were requested to prepare petitions for a bond election to be circulated among the freeholders. Ty Cobb was clearly in the wrong when he used such tactics as was witnessed Saturday afternoon at Wofford Park. If the Wofford boy renewed the feud in Greenville, then he was wrong. Our sympathies go out to neither party. But since seeing Cobb playing with college boys as he did, we are tempted to believe the stories that were told on him when he first entered the big leagues. ?Spartanburg Journal. Governor Blease has appointed F. H. Dominick, of Newberry, assistant attorney general of South Carolina, as a lieutenant colonel on his staff. Mr. Dominick was the chief executive's campaign manager during the political fight of last summer. Governor Blease appointed Dr. E. M. Matthews, of St. Matthews, on the board of trustees of the South Carolina Industrial School, in place of T. P. Brown, who has resigned. State of Ohio, city of Toleda, ? Lucas County. Frank J.
