Jonesville News Letter.
Jonesville, Feb. 17.?Mr. John W.
Eison died at his home at Trough
Shoals last Thursday and his remains
were buried there Friday. Mr. Eison
was the son of the late F. W.
Eison, and brother of Mr. N. B. Eison..
He was a Confederate veteran and
was about 66 years old. Jonesville
was his native heath, but he had
livpd for several years at Trough
Shoals.
Mrs. Nancy E. Gossett died at her
home four miles South of Jonesville
last Friday, and her remains wert*
buried at New Hope Saturday by the
side of her husband, Henry W. Gossett,
who preceded her to the grave
several years since. Mrs. Gossett
was 69 years of age and a daughter
of the late Charles W. and Betsy
Scott. Mrs. Scott had been a member
of the Methodist church at New
Hope for many years and was a
good Christian woman. She had been
sick for some time with a complication
of diseases. She leaves two sons
and two daughters, all married, and
many other relatives and friends. The
funeral services were conducted at
the church by her pastor, Rev. W. H.
Ariail.
Mr. J. B. McWhirer, Comer, Georgia,
made a short visit Saturday and
Monday to relatives and friends at
Jonesville. Mr. McWhirter is the son
of James McWhirter, who once lived
three miles south of Jonesville on the
Union road and who moved to Georgia
in the year 1858.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Herring and
two children of Columbia, spent Sunday
with relatives in Jonesville.
I have been reading and enjoying
the Mr. B. P. Gregory's write-up of
the late war, in the Times, was in the
same company and in the mess with
Mr. Gregory during the first year
of the war and his experiences are
quite familiar to me.
Dr. and Mrs. W. O. Southard are
up in New York visiting relatives.
Lockhart Junction News.
Lockhart Junction, Feb 17.?The
weather today seems like spring and
if it continues a few days the farmers
will start their plowing again.
Some are hauling in their guano.
There has been a few carloads
shipped in to this place.
News is scarce in this section. We
like to read the different correspondent's
letters. We see a new one.now
and then, and all are interesting
writers.
In reply to the Jonesville correspondent!
will say he has passed a
good joke in his last letter upon the
maids and widowers. Now we appreciate
his jokes for he always knows
how to say good things about anyone,
and I think I can speak for all
of that organized body, the same
thing.
Mr. II. J. Ilames now has on a sale
at his store in Jonesville. He has
many good bargains and his store
is crowded every day.
Miss Freda Trefzer of Union visited
her mother, Mrs. K. G. Gault,
of this community, last Sunday.
Mrs. Henry Gossett, who lives in
the New Hope seqtion, died at her
son's, Mr. A. H. Gossett, last Friday,
and was buried at New Hope church
the following day. She has been
in declining health for a long time.
The sorrowing ones have our sympathy.
A little child of Mr. W. W. Vinson
is very sick.
BLEASE VETOES
LOCAL MEASURE.
Columbia, S. C., Feb. 19.?The gov.
ernor tonight sent to the senate his
veto of the bill reducing the commis
sioners of the city of Spartanburg
from four to two, with a mayor. Senator
Carlisle moved to override the
veto, which was done, 32 to 0, not a
vote being cast to sustain the veto.
Card of Thanks.
We wish to thank the many friends
for their kindness shown us during
the illness and death of our dear
mother. May God's richest blessings
rest u|ion each and every one.
A. H. Gossett.
