Dear Friend: I will this afternoon write in regard to two affidavits sent you some time ago, about the service of one James W. Wicks, of your place who enlisted in the Confederate army about the 1st of May, 1861, under v^api. dims, nis colonel was Joe Guess, and W. M. Steadman was his 1st sergeant. At the last Legislature of this state there was passed a law allowing old Confederates $10.00 per month, but they .must make some proof to the effect that they served whereabouts. Now if you will assist me in the case of Mr. Wicks by furnishing me with the proofs I will send you here sorne affidavits and you have some of his comrades to swear to them and fill them out and return \ with your charges and I will see that you are paid for same. It has to be done before an officer that uses a seal,, as you will see. I take it that there are lots of his comrades there and who would be more than glad to help him in getting a pension.
