of Delta, who in giving it to the
Times for publication, also gives us
one of his own:
Brothers Still.
Twas back in the sixties, when Reub
and I,
Set out for the scene of strife
Resolved, if need be, there to die,
For the sake of the nation's life.
The patriot's heart beat in each of
us, true,
He wore the grey, and I wore the
blue.
We had argued the matter over and
Till bitter we both had grown,
Until at last some cutting taunts
Each had at the other thrown.
In anger we turned from our dear old 1
home, _
And parted and onward marched J
Where camp fires reddened the starry *
dome,
And the fields with blood were
parched.
And time rolled on; one fearful day
Mid the battles furious tide I
As it surged past me, a form arose, ,
A rebel stood at my side.
The lust of death was in each eye,
A moment, and then that look.
I gasped out' Reub", and he said '
"Dave",
No more, for our voices shook.
For a moment we stood with firm
clasped hands,
And knew by our bosom's thrill

Mayor of Gaffney Gives Interview to
the Gaffney Ledger on Governor's
Remarks at Spartanburg.

Gaffney, May 14.?The Gaffney
Ledger upblishes today an interview
with Col. T.T B. Butler of this city in
regard to the criticism made by the
governor in Spartanburg of Mayor
Butler. The criticism, which appear}d
in The Herald, was occasioned by
i reporter's question to Gov. Blease
il to Col. Butler having withdramn
lis support. The governor was quite
severe in his remarks. When seen
lere by a local reportr, Col. Butler
taid:
"Yes, I have seen Gov. Blease's
iriticism of me in the Spartanburg

REUNION LOSS TO MACON
NOT UNDER $250,000.
Thousands of Cots Were Never
Used by the Veteran
Visitors.
Macon. Ga., May 14.?Careful estimates
place the financial loss sustained
by Macon people on the reunion
at not less than $260,000. The
greater part of this was invested in
thousands of cots which were never
used.
There are numerous instances
where the loss falls upon those least
able to bear it. In one case an
aged school teacher mortgaged her
home .spending $800 for cots, and
failed to rent even ono. A Russian
barber, who had saved $500 to bring
his parents from the old country, like
wise bought cots and did not have a
single roomer.
The trouble was that the people
of Macon were over enthusiastic
ahnut the reunion. Thev confiHentlv
expected and prepared for 160,000
visitors. Less than 40,000 came. Of
| the 200 lunch stands, only four made
any profit, and one is said to have
lost $11,000.
In the last two days more than
60,000 buns, loaves of bread and sandwitches
have been dumped into the
river. Souvenir dealers were also
hard hit.
