South Carolina Man Fall* From Train
Aahvtflle, March 25.?Aa the result
of Injuries received Saturday,
when he fell from a freight train
near the Murphy junction, Robert
O. Pike of Lockhart, 8. C., died Sunday
night at the Meriwether, where
he had been taken for surgical treatment.
In the fall his skull was
crushed and part of his brain was
maahed out. It is thought that he
was making an effort to alight from
the train when he fell. At the hospital
he underwent an operation,
which in itself was successful but
[at the time little hope was entertained
of his recovery. The deceased
owned a farm at Alexander, about
ten miles from here. His remains
have been shipped to South Carolina.

made a request of Mr. Browning?to
give the public of Union county a
statement of the finances of the State
of South Carolina; as yet Mr. Browning
has not replied, therefore add my
request for the same. As chairman
of the Ways and Means Committee 6f
the House of. Representatives, Mr.
Browning has made an enviable reput|ttion
for himself and has been an
honor to the people of Union county.

Mr. Browning is intelligent, fearless,
outspoken and independent?he wears
no man's oollar. He has made a
state-wide reputation. In fact, the
writer has heard that Browning was |
the beBt posted man in the State, on j
the finances of South Carolina, and;
many of his constltutents would ap- j
predate an article from him on the
above subject. The farmers of Union
county made no mistake when
they sent a farmer of Browning's calibre
to represent them in Columbia.
The writer regrets to hear that he
will not offer again for the House for
South Carolina needs such men.

will hold a semi-centennial celebration
