Browning, chairma of the ways and means committe of the house for the past two yean was presented with a handsome soli silver fruit dish yesterday by tb members of bis committee. Tb gift was a very pleasant surprise t Mr. Browning. The ways and means committe held a meeting yesterday afternoo with George W. Dick, of.Sumtei ranking member, presiding. In few words Mr. Dick stated the ol ject of the meeting and called upo W. A. James, of Darlington, tb "patriarch" of the committee, t present the committee's gift to Mi Browning. Mr. James made., graceful presentation t^peech, t which Mr. Browning replied. Speal er M. L. Smith, who had been it vited to be present, also made a fe< remarks, although on account of tb I condition of his throat he could n< speak1 above a whisper. The silver dish which the waj and means committee presented t its chairman as a token of its esteer is a handsome octiigonal piece < solid silver. On the base of th dish is engraved: "To Lowndes J Browning, Chairman Ways an Means Committee, House of Reprt sentatives, S. C., 1911-12."
