The John Hiiines Chapter was

Regular meetings are held ;it the

usually well attended.
The organization has steadily increased
in interest and number un

The chief aim ami purjiose of thr
chapter has Ih-cii to erect a Con fed errtc
monument in the town of
Jonesville to the memory of the
brave heroes of In ion district.
Through the untiring efforts of
the chapter and the liberal assistance
of others an amount sullicient
to place an order for a J*lt">(K)
monument has lieen raised, which
will l>c unveiled in the very near
future.
At a meeting shortly after organization
of the chapter, Miss Anna

monument to the Confederate soldiers
of Union district," as this
county was called before and during
the war, embracing lower Cherokee
county also. We have had delegates
at every State convention,
since organization, ami at four general
conventions, delegates paying
their own expenses. We have ">0c
annual dues, ten cents jxir member
going to the State fund, and ten
cents to the general U. 1>. C., the
remaining thirty cents going to the
monument fund. We have had
entertainments, bazaars, dinners,
and various other things to make
money. Many voluntary contributions
were made. Kelow we give a
