The Crop the Office Boy Sowed.
Jack was office boy in the top of a
nineteen-story building. One day he
was sent to the postoffice on an errand
which took him to the money order
department in the big stone building.
While standing there awaiting
his turn and wishing that it was Saturday
afternoon, so that he could go to
see his cousins in the country and help
them "raise crops," he saw an Irish
woman push her way up to another
window and heard her explaining to
the clerk that she wanted to send "tin:
dollars" to her mother in the "ould
country."
The clerk, in no very good humor,
handed her a blank; but the woman
only stood and looked at it in a puzzled
way, and finally made her way
brck to the window, repeating: "I
want to send tin dollars to me mother."
vv ?mi, nil out your blank and come
back here, but not before," was the
sharp reply.
Again the woman stared at the clerk
and then at the blank. She did not
know what to do. Just then Jack stepped
over to the woman and said:
please let me help you fill that out."
"Sbre, God bless ye!' answered she.
\nd the grateful look which she gave
lack when it was done made him think
:hat he had sowed a crop of something
aetter than wheat,?human kindness.?
