Mrs. William Hunter, of Raleigh, N. C., is the guest of Mrs. Crown Torrence this week. Mrs. Sarah McCubbins has returned from Columbia and is at the home of Capt. F. M. Farr. Mr. C. H. Thurston went to Lockhart Wednesday to initiate twenty-one candidates into the K.! of H. lodge. Mr. Thurston says this Lockhart lodge is among the best he ever instituted. Finley. of Lockhart, was here Saturday and Sunday. Sunday she ; assisted in organizing a Woman's Missionary society at Salem Baptist church. The officers elected were: President. Mrs. Carrie B. Jeter; vice-president. Mrs. Ida B. Jeter; secretary, Miss Hattie Moss; treasurer, Miss Stella Hobson. Several of the men folks gave them their names as members for a mpnthly fee of at least 10 cents each. Many pronounce a W. M. S. as a good society, "if" one will stick, and the question is: who will be the first not to. All here hope much for this newly organized society. Death of Mrs. Jeter. Santuc,' Jan. 28.?Mrs. Ophelia Jeter, widow of the late Mr. John R. Jeter, died Sunday night at j Carfcsle and was buried Tuesday I at the Jeter burying ground, where a large concourse of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. Mrs. Jeter was a Miss Hamilton, sister of Messrs. R. W., P. P., and Dr. J. H. Hamilton, and had been, up to two years ago, a resident of this plage, and Santuc still claimed her. She 1 was living at the time of her death ' with her daughter, Mrs. C. A- Jeter, at Carlisle. She leaves four sons: Messrs. Jas. O., of this place, E. H., of Jonesville, Dr. R. R., of 1 Whitmire. G. H., of Carlisle, and one daughter, Mrs. C. A. Jeter, of Carlisle, and a large number of relatives and friends. Mrs. Jeter j was a staunch member of the 1 Methodist church, a close friend, of a genial disposition, possessed a kind heart, and all who ever j came in contact with her counted her as a friend, this friendship being retained through life. A good woman, truly, has fallen on sleep, and as her relations and friends feel her loss greatly they feel that ' she has gained greatly. ! j Mon-Aetna News. A new grocery store has been established at Monarch during the past week, by Mr. M. C. Feaster and Mr. Davis Eison. Much success to them in their new undertaking. A reception was given on last Saturday night at the home of Mr. Newton Johnson, for the general enjoyment of his young friends. A night school is in session now at Monarch and is being taught by , Rev. J. T. Going and his sister", Miss Carrie. So tar the school is' making rapid progress. A daughter was born the latter part of last week to Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cudd. Mrs C. M. Freeman spent the latter part of last week visiting relatives at Carlisle. Mr. J. M. Crosby, of Knoxville, Tenn.. spent last Sunday here with friends. The ladies missionary society of the Baptist church here is planning to give a nice entertainment, consisting of dialogues, speeches, etc., ? sometime in the near future. ^ Mrs. Seago Bodie leaves today 0 for her home in Columbia. Little Wallace Stevens had the misfortune to get his collarbone broken while at play at school last week. He is getting about all right now.
