Forged Name.
Santuc. Dec. 31.? During tin
holidays a " negro, Albert Gist
wanted to ho in the fashion.?
wanted to sport a jug.?but was a
short of "skinks" a.> a sand hill rat

there was getting to he "hot

b?'th cold and hot around those
diggings. Some people will have

may have thought his would
not undo him. but "do" him up.
Sunday School Convention.
Santuc. Jan. j.?On Saturday
before, and fifth Sunday, all who
keep the record in their head to
this not distant date know the
world was enveloped in heavy togs
and was very unfavorable for any
sort of meeting, but your correspondent
"hauled up" at Hebnn
church to a meeting of the Sundayschool
convention, and there wa.one.
Not a failure, but almost, i
large numbers are tile makers <?
good meetings. There were mon
than "two or three" there and goot
results may come from that meet
ing yet. The meeting was <|uitc informal.
There was a little form t<
do away with a bigger, and may b<
stiff form, and all <>f the red tap<
part, if any there ever was. was cu
i, out. If it had not been, many o
the "small fry" of laymen who sak
something on the few subjects dis
cussed could not have said any
thing. The president was absen
on Saturday on account of sick
ness: the vice-president being al?<
absent. Rev. H. K. Ezell was elect
ed president pro. tern. The secre
tary was on hand and the little in
formal meeting proceeded. Sun
day there was better attendance
and Rev. TI. K. Ezell preached th<
missionary sermon from the tcxi
iti Matt. 6:10: "Thy kingdom come
thy will he done on earth as it i;
in heaven." After this a collectior
was taken tor State missions. This
amounted to S.V.M. which was ver;
good for so very small a congre
gation. The place tor next meet
ing has not been decided, but ma;
be nearer next time.
The good people of Hebron re
ceived the little crowd of visitor
cordially and gave them Christiai
hospitality, and nothing can towe
over anything Christian. F.vet
tho mud may have risen up befori
some and the fog got betweet
them and Hebron, they missed ont
of the Christmas treats. Then
were some young ladies there.?
thought it was good to be there fo
me.
Mr. Sanders' Position on Roads
Mr. Editor: As a great many o
my friends have been making in
quiry tas to the best plan of working
roads. I want to state m;
views. I think the best plan t<
fix these bad places in the road
is to shovel flown <>11 each end o
these places until the firm grouiv
is reached, and then rake out th
road bed for ten feet wide, fil
these with rocks, pack well witl
sledge hammers. Then when con
venient haul sand and throw on to]
of the rocks. My opinion, Mr. Ed
itor, is that our county is not abl
to macadamize all the roads, bu
it is able to macadamize mud hole
and bad places.
I will state that our people ar
burdened with taxation and I thin
that the tax levy ought to be re
duced. I've been told that 011
property has been valued highe
than usual. That should brinj
a^out a reduction of the '?,y.
Respectfully.
Joseph Sander*,.
