Mr. Winter C. Wallace, of Spartanburg,
brother of Mr. J-: Clough
Wallace, of this city, was in Union
du business Monday.
Dr. J. 6. Going has begun the
erection of a neat, five-room cottage
on the vacant lot above his
residence on Mountain street.
Mrs. W. J. Anderson, who has
been with her son, Mr. E. M.
Anderson, for some time, returned
Tuesday to her home in Sumter.
Mayor E. F. Kelly, of Joncsville,
kvas here Monday. He says he
believes in getting in behind the
vagrants and making them move.
Miss lama Lipscomb, who has
been visiting in Tavncaster, is visiting
a few days in the city before
returning to her home at Asbury.
Ex-Senator J. T. Douelas. of
Union, in a member of the executive

"Mr. Wallace Moore, of Cheraw,
spent Saturday and Sunday with

The Buffalo Oil Mill started up
Monday. There were some hitches
in the machinery hut these were
soon eleminated and work was in
full blast Tuesday.
President Robt. P. Pell, of Converse
college, was in Union on
Sunday, and preached at Mt. Vernon
-Presbyterian church at the
morning service.
Rev. and Mrs. A. G. Wardlaw
and Mr. .1. E. Col ton, of this city,
are in Laurens this week attending
the Synod of South Carolina in its
annual convention.
Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Morgan
returned Monday from their bridal
trip north, and are at home to their
friends at the home of Mrs. Mary
Morgan on Church street.
Mr. C. W. Arrington, the now
operator for the U. <fc Q.V. and
Seaboard at Prides, lives here in
Union and goes down each day;
his home is in the Arthur cottage
on Church street for the presont.
Mr. Arrington is originally from
Georgia.

Sheriff Sanders savs the horse

the beat yet. The horses were
finer, faster, of better breed, and
more of them than at any previous
fair.

Masters will occupy the elevenroom
house next to Mr. J. II.
Gault's on Gage avenue. They
will occupy the house December
1st.
Editor J. Rutledge McGhee, of
the Greenwood Index, was in the
city Monday. Mr. McGhee is an
all-round fine Jfellow and is a welcome
visitor anywhere, and especially
at The Times office.

I that intervened between the canal
of mill No. 1 and mill No. 2 was
dynamited and the water flowed to
mill No. 2. The wheel has been
running. No cotton as yet has
! been fed to the breakers but possibly
will be some time this week.
Mill No. 2 is possibly as well
furnished as any mill in the state.
It is substantially built and is a
credit to the designer, and also to
the men who built it. It is
equipped with the latest improved
machinery.

The It. It. Commispuin, which

inspection of the Southern's lines
between Columbia and Greenville
ind ljetween Spartanburg and Columbia,
in company with Supt.
Williams, has given out its - report.
This inspection was made on
iccount of the recent complaints
from Greenville, Spartanburg and
Union. The Commisssoners tind
bat new ties and heavy rails are
dl needed on these lines to prevent
die numerous wrecks 'and make
possible a better schedule.
The work of laying rails is being
pushed with special energy and it
s hoped that liefore long the work
vill he complete.
