MY SWEETIIKAKT.
V?\s, I have a sweetheart? i ]

V sweetheart is a joy, a pleasure, j
in anchor and a safeguard. With-1
>ut a sweetheart, joys in the* life of j
i young man are unknown,
iw hilt. noor aild not of the
highest nature, and the dangers of
life may more easily assail. By all
means should every young man
have a sweetheart. Now al>out i
mine.
The purpose of this article l>eing
wholly good, I feel sure that my
sweetheart will not object to this
publicity of matters. 1 aim to impart
a good idea; namely, to suggest
that l>oys get sweethearts. I
would show them the beauty
and joy, the pleasure and sweetness,
the safety ami serenity of it
all, and thus incite them to action.
And I feel assured no offence will
! be -taken by the other party conj
eerned.
My sweetheart! Why, I love
j her with all the force of my being;
| my heart-beats are all for h< r; my
thoughts are ever of her, and her
: alone. She is all the world to me,
j and the only world I want. There
is no other face fairer than hers, nc
eyes brighter, and no voice sweeter.
Beautiful! Her beauty outshines the
rising sun. Lovely! There is, none
more lovely. Sweet! She is th<
incarnation of all sweetness. \!
Yes, to me, she is most beautiful
Her face is like a lily; jin-t as
white, just as soft. And her eye:
are brighter than the stars

Now, it should he easy ta> imagine
the joy of loving such a 'girl,
to sec her face light up at your [coming;
to hear her cheery voiey, in
which ring clear the tones ofi love
and sincerity; and to feel in' your
heart of hearts that she loves you.
And the pleasures of enjoying such
companionship, such association,
are beyond compare. I know she
waits for me, watches and longs for
my coming; in turn, it is with
quick step and rapid stride that I
go to meet her. The hours seem
short at her side, and the minutes
are long when she is away. In her
presence, life seems a sweet, sweet
song; when she passes from
my sight "it seems like the ceasing
of exquisite music." Joy and ,
pleasure?why, the height of joy

reached in such a love. Further-;
more, a love like this is an anchor;
<> a restless life, and all lniys are |

Mine is only three years old, but!

HILLY IS DEAD.
1
Alone in the quiet of midnight, ,
rhile all is still as death* no r?oia?. i
, ,
ever a sound, not a move,?jienively
I sit and dream of the vandied
days. Something is lacking, i
imething gone, a sense of loneli- j
ess steals over me, and my spirit ^
i depressd. The cool breezes of j
ight with their soft and delicate h
nisie entice my soul into the spirit 1
ind, and tenderly on their wings ?
n I borne aloft, on and on, be>nd
earth's lounds, out into endss
realms. Entering the liounds
>f a great kingdom, I meet spirits,
ie\v in form, unheard of l>efore.
Remembering some phases of my
ife on earth, I soon am able to deermine
my whereabouts. Capribrin
spirits are on every side,
iround, alove and beneath. I'm
in the goat heaven; and here I hold
onverse with my old friend of
Mirth, "Billy."
Beneath shady trees and beside
cooling streams, I sit and hear the
story of a life spent on earth, then
its exit, and now its eternal bliss in
a world where no sorrows cofne.
Billy speaks of life's tempests, his
woes and trials; he remembers that
in life, his aetions were not what
they might have been, but his load
of care and numerous temptations
were almost too great to bear. So
he lived out life's day as best he
could, bearing its burden, and
grateful to all who spoke kindly to
him and made his path less thorny.
Toward the close of his life, the
I seriousness of death impressed him
land he tried to do l>ettcr; now, in
reward, lie is enjoying an everlasting
peace. Billy seems grateful
for the kind words penned in this
column some weeks before he departed
this life?they caused him t<
think. And he wishes to thank
also our friend, the editor ol
Progress, for his gentle words o
: warning. They came at an oppor
tune time, and stayed him in main
plans, unbefitting one about to die
Yes, Billy is dead. I miss him
: for he made pleasant many a loneb
