Happenings of Interest
About Town.
Mi*. J. J. B. Learnard spent
Saturday and Sunday in Buffalo.
Mr. Graham Norman, of Cedartown,
Ga., is visiting his sister Mrs.
F. C. Duke.
Mr. John DuPree, of Florida, is
visiting relatives in the city and
county. He is a native of Union.
Little Miss Mary Jones, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. Dudley Jones,
of Gaffney, is visiting her uncle,
Jason Norman.
Air, G, W. Wheeler, who has
boon very ill at his home in Buffalo
for the past three weeks, is improving
rapidly.
Dr. E. W. Foster left Thursday
for White Stone to attend the Dental
Association, and will spend several
days at this famous resort.
Mr. A. P. Wilson, bookkeeper
for Turner A May field, has resigned
his position and returned to his
home at Spartanburg. He with
a party of young men will spend
two weeks camping in the mountains
of North Carolina.

The Union County Cotton Growers
Association has invited President
Harvey Jordan, President E.
D. Smith and F. H. Hyatt to be
present on rally d^,yist Monday in
August, and del iWr addresses. This
will be a gala day as well as a very
busy and important for the farmers
and people generally of the county.
Tuesday and Wednesday the
" Southlxmnd train was four hours
late. The delay was caused by a
wrecked freight train near Tryon,
N. C. Sevoral cars had been
knocked off the track by a shifting
engine and completely broken to
pieces. A wrecking train was sent
to tho place to remove the debris
and repair tho track.

RATES WILL BE GRANTED.
Important Hearing Held Before
Railroad Commissioners
Yesterday.
The State.
A hearing was held hy the railroad
commission yesterday morning
in the matter of rates for the new
Union and Glenn Springs Railway
company. The rates will he granted,
as will he shown hy the following
order by the commission:
Application for regulation of
, Tratlic Rates over the Union and
Glenn Springs Railroad and the
Seaboard Air Line Railway.
I This matter coming on to he
hojird on the report of tin- Seaboard
! Air Line Railway, which return
'does not deny the discrimination
J made by said railway between the
'stations of Ncal Shoals and the othj
er stations upon the line of the
Union & Glenn Springs railroad,
the said discrimination being in violation
of the laws of this State,
and it appearing further that the
situation of the Union and Glenn
Springs railroad is in all respects
similar to that of the Lancaster and
Chester railroad, with reference to
the Seaboard Air Line railway and
that similar rates to those here asked
for are granted to the Lancaster
and Chester railroad or stations on
said railroad, thus discriminating
between stations similarly situated
in this state.
It is ordered: That the rule to
show cause heretofore issued in the
above entitled matter be made absolute,
and that the Seaboard Air
Line railway do make and publish
such reasonable and just joint rates
for trallie to and from the towns of
Union and Buffalo and other stations
on the Union and (Jlenn
Springs railroad other than Neal
Shoals over said railroad, in con1
ncction with the Seal>oard Air Line
railway, on the same basis as the
joint rates now made by said com- .
pany on all traffic over said rail1
roads to and from the station of
