A Horse Thief.
Late last Saturday night Mr. T.
I'. Miller was awakened hy a noise
in the hack part of his lot, near his
poiptry house. He got up and
dressed hurriedly, and taking his
pistol in his hand went to investigate,
and in walking hy the stable
he noticed that the door stood a
little ajar, this he knew was wrong,
as he had fastened it when he fed
his horses the evening before. He
went to the door and pushed it,the
door did not yield, there was some"
thing against it, he kept pushing,

man who had been holding the
door.
The man had put a bridle on one
of Mr. Miller's horses, and as Mr.
Miller entered the would be horse
thief kept the horse between him
and Mr. Miller thus preventing Mr.
Miller from shooting. The thief
kept turning and backing the horse
until ho could reach the door and
as he did so, he leaped out of the
door and fled round the corner of
the stable so tlmt Mr. Miller never
had any chance to shoot him. This
was an expert rogue and doubtless
had made many such raids for
horses, in which he had been more
successful than in this instance.
