Weekly Crop Bulletin.
Columbia, S. C., Juno 20, 100").
The week cndtng S a. m., June
lhth, had a mean temperature
.slightly above normal, with extremes
of a maximum of OH degrees
at Blackvillc ow the 13th, and
a minimum of 6l> degrees at Greenville
on the 13th. The sunshine
aviraged about normal, although in
parts of the State there was considerable
cloudiness the latter part.
There, were no destructive hicrh
winds*, or other damaging conditions.
The precipitation was in the form
of thunderstorms and local showers.
The rainfall was heavy in places in
the eastern counties, where it
ranged from half an inch to over
two inches, with scattered localities
in all parts of the State that had
110 rain or amounts too small to Iks
lienof.ca'.. Hiiro were some heavy
showers in the northern liorder
counties hut they were widely scattered.
The need of rain is indicated
for the central and south"
western counties, generally, and in
places elsewhere.
Cultivation made rapid progress
and nearly all fields have been rid
of gnws and weeds, except where
laborers were scarce, or where the
ground has become too hard to
plow and cultivate. The weather
was favorable for harvesting wheat
and oats, which work is nearly finished
except for spring oats.
There was a general improvement
in the condition of cotton, with ex
( options in the case of fields that
have not been thinned or cleaned
of grass, but only in exceptional
instances have the plants attained
normal growth, l>cing generally undersized.
Blooming is still sporadic,
though fairly general in the
eastern counties. Sea Island cotton
is in good condition but as yet
blooming sparsely. Lice are still
present in sections, but are disappearing.
Chopping has not Ijcen
finished.
There has been only slight improvement
in corn which continues
small and yellow, except on fields
that received early and thorough
cultivation. There are many complaints
of corn tasscling low, and of
damage by worms. There is considerable
land yet to be planted to
corn.
There is little change in the condition
of tobacco, which shows the
effects of too much rain, and lack
of cultivation. Rice is receiving its

harvest water in the Colleton district,
and is generally doing well.
Gardens and pastures need rain in
the central and western parts. Melons
are quite promising. Wheat is
yielding poorly at threshing. Oats
also are generally poor, but with
numerous exceptions where the
yields range from good to excellent.
A large acreage of peas, for forage,
Ixung sown, and more lands will bo
sown as soon as it rains.
Union.?Jonesville: The week
has been dry, and farm work well
advanced generally; moisture is
needed, there were local showers on
the 14th and 15th in northern part
of county; corn planting not finished;
small grains harvested; late
cotton is growing well; gardens
need rain. ? F. P. O'Shields.
Sermonette by Wm. M. roster.
Behold, a king shall reign in'
righteousness, and princes shall
rule in judgment. And a man
shall Ik; as a hiding place from the
wind, and a covert from the tempest;
as rivers of water in a dry
place, as the shudow of a great
rock in a weary land. Isaiah 32nd
A 1 ? -A ? t
uimpu-r aim isi arm ana verses. A
long text but ? short scrmonettc.
The first word of the text invites
universal attention. A king shall
reign in righteousness, and this
king (Jesus) is the only one in
whom no guile has ever been found.
Righteousness, that exalts the nations,
was the glory of His whole
career during His sojourn on earth,
and characterized His entire life
from Bethlehem to Calvary. No
princes ever ruled in judgment who
did not live in the nurture and admonition
of the king who reigns in
glory supreme, and will while the
ceaseless ages of eternity roll. Who
is this king of glory, the Ixrnl
mighty in battle? He was the man
of sorrows, the hiding place from
! the tempestuous winds that blast
the. hopes of so many beguiled by
the wiles of Hatan, the arch enemy
of all the human rata;. This king
is a covert from every tempest that
assails the human heart, u refuge
in storms of sorrow, and a present
help in time of need. As rivers of
water in a dry place; rending His
rain for three purposes, viz.:
Whether for His land, or for correction,
or for nicrcy; and with
unfeigned thanks let all praise Hitn,
for His mercy endures forover.
Who is a rock save our God? His
shadow covers all the weary la$ds.

The Sunday issue of the Atlanta M
Constitution contained a very nice, M
short write up of the city of Union.
Only a few of the leading industries,
enterprises, resources and attrac- ni
tions were mentioned, hut these K<
most favorably. The Union cotton M
mills, Win. A. Nicholson & Son
bank building, First Presbyterian R<
church editk*, and a busy scene on soi
Main street in front of and includ- H

In speaking of the mineral W
wealth and mineral HpringH of lia
Union county the newly discovered 1
mineral spring of Mr. I. F. Peake wi
on Gage avenue was highly spoken
of as containing large percentage of
mineral properties of great medici- _
nal value, and that the location of Si
this spring in the very heart of the
city at the foot of three steep hills, ?
it t ?

were ideal spots for a tourist hotel. tw<
That the lo<id advantages enjoyed ?by
Union as to climate made it delightfully
cool in stnnincr and very ;
mild in winter and unusually <
healthy as the mortality statistics c
show. Union is the <rity for tourists ?
