Mr. Editor: I wish to continue i
the ' discussion of the subject, i
"Water, how to apply to preserve <
health and cure various diseases." 1
I see in my last some one has com- <
plctely spoiled my lathi motto by
changing mens to meus and sana to t
sane. 1 desire to quote a few emi- 1
nent medical authors on water as a <
therapeutic agent. These are in i
forms of prescriptions which can j
be? used by all intelligent readers i
and injure none except the doctors. <
A common sense use of air, water <
and hygienic treatment will surely
cause the doctor's visits to be less
frequent. <
Dr. Lambo says tlrnt drilling <
distilled water will cure stone, <
gravel, cancer and other malignant
diseases, if a pure diet is used at i
tbo same time. Dr. Hypcis, of SH, i
Louis, says that to drink plenty of
hot water is the best kiditey medicine
one can hike. Dr. "Carpenter,
of St. Louis, says the best "way to
cool fever is by sponging ^ith tepid ,
water. Dr. J. L. Ingram says I
believe in plenty of water internally,
externally and eternally. Dr. \V.
Frank Moss says the quickest and
best way to mow the bowels is by
an injection of water. The quickest
way to produce a sweat is the
hot bath. The quickest way to
stop hemorrhage of the lungs is to 1
apply eold cloths or ice to the chest. 1
The best stimulant is the hot bath
or hot water drinking. The best
remedy for bruises and lacerations
is the application of cold wet cloths.
All old soldiers can War testimony
to the fact of this statement. All
army surgeons fully realized the
value of water as an antiseptic.
anodyne, sedative, tonic, diaphoretic,
styptic and other healing
properties. The physiological effects
of hot and cold water are diluent,
dissolvent, sedative, laxative,
emetic, nervine, expectorant, alterative,
diuretic, tonic, anti-spasmodic,
anodyne, anesthetic, diaphoretic,
styphtic and cliolagoguc.
A fluttering heart is quieted instantly
by applying over it a cold
wet cloth. Vomiting and nausea
are checked by a cold wet cloth
under the chin. Apply a cold wet
cloth over night for a few nights for
sore throat. Severe pains in the
lungs arc relieved by hot cloths bctween
the shoulders and cold cloths
over tha lungs in front; renew the
cloths every four minutes. What a
contrast between the treatment of
diseases now and 75 years ago. 1
Your correspondent remembers the
time when a patient scorched with
fever was shut up in a close room
with strict orders from the doctor '
not to allow it to have a drop of 1
cold water! And often, in order
to deplete his patient still more, 1
the socalled M. D. would cord his 1
patient's arm and with the deadly '
lancet proceed to draw from it i
blood! till he fainted. All this in <
the name of science! My father
A-1,1 -- * ' 1
una me wncn a ooy, he had lain ill 1
bed three weeks with hot fever,
not allowed a drop of water. One i
day a neighbor lady came in about
dinner time, as she had dined at
home, and offered her services to
wait on him. When alone he bcgnn
lagging her for water. He ]
said, "I am burning up! I am 1
dying for water! The good lady's '
sympathetic nature could not with- J
stand his appeals. She gave him
water and in fifteen minutes he was .
in profuse perspiration and recov- {
ered. A thousand times better it 1
would have been, if our forefathers
had followed the example of the
ravage Indians, repaired to nature's
laboratory, the forest, and guided '
by instinct, and what common

them, gathered and prepared the I
numerous medicinal plants spread

3/>th verse of the 32nd chapter of
Deuteronomy.
To mo lielongeth vengeance, and
recompense; their foot shall slide
in due tinie: for the day of their
calamity is at hand, and the things |
that shall come upon them make
last'.
To God alone ladongs vengeance
ind recompense, I will repay saith

Tom God. If I take the wings of |
he morning and fly to the uttcrnost
parts of the earth lo! thou
irt there. If I make my bed in
icll lo! thou art there. God sees
is well in the dark as in the light
dl things are open to His view.
Hie knows what is in man, and
mows tliat bis Ucaft is desperately
ivicked and deceitful above all
things, who .can know it save God?
rheir foot shall slide in due time,
so says the living God, and God is
lot a man that he should lie, nor
die son of man that He should repent.
Hath He said, and shall he
not do it, or hath he spoken and
ihall he not muke it good? The day
>f the calamity of the wicked is at
hand, and the things that shall
?*ome upon them make haste,
The I>ord knoweth how to deliver
the godly out of temptation, and
bo reserve the unjust unto the day
jf judgment to l>e punished. It is
appointed unto man once to die,
and after this the judgment, and
man will be judged according to the
deeds done in the Is sly. How
careful then ought Christains to Ihj;
they all should walk in wisdom
toward them that arc without, re'
deeming the time for the days are
evil. Prove themselves to be a peculiar
people, zealous of good works
walking worthy the vocation whereunto
they nave been called. Be
spl>er, be vigilant, for your adversary
the devil like a roaring lion
walkcth about seeking whom he
may dovour.
All hearts are known to God on high
To deceive Him, no one should try;
He knows all hearts and tries the
reins.
And both heaven and earth sus"
tains.
Vengeance,recompense, are his own,
All secret thoughts to him are
known;
To the letter he will repay
To all mankind who go astray.
In due time wicked feet shall slide,
And men to endless ruin glide;
Calamity will Ik; at hand,
And (jiod strict justice will demand.
Their fearful doom will soon make
haste,
While life with many runs to waste;
Let all be ready for the day,
When they from time must haste
