Carolina, in Council assembled, and by
authority of same that an Ordinance en- !
titled, "An Ordinance Granting I.. G.
Young, his associates and Assigns, a ,
Franchise to Build, Kquip and Operate |
an lilectrie Railroad in the Town of .
Union, South Carolina", ratified in '
Council assembled on the second day of |
January, 1905, he and the same is hereby I
amended by striking from Section 14 of
said Ordinance the words "said rights
being exclusively granted to the said
I.. G. Young, his ass< cintes ami assigns",
so that said Ordinance as amended shall
read as follows, to wit;
Section 1. That I.. Ci. Young and his
associates and assigns be, and they are
hereby authorized and emnnwrreH in
construct, equip, maintain am! operate n
street railway through, on anil along the
streets and avenues ami all streets and
avenues that may he hereafter opened,
and arc authorized and empowered to
operate the same hv electricity and necessary
equipments including the erection
and building of poles and wires in said
streets.
Skc. 2. That the said railway shall
he constructed with single or double
tracks as may he determined upon by the
said L. G. Voting, his associates and assigns,
with all necessary and convenient
turnouts, switches and sidings; provided
the tracks shall not be laid or maintained
above or below the surface of the street*,
and shall he constructed of first class "T"
iail*, in such manner that carriages and
other vehicles may cross the same at all
points freely and easily without ohst.notion.
All proposed plans, courses, styles
of.rails and the manner of laying the
shine to he submitted to the Street Committee
for their approval and sanction,
which shall he obtained before said Company
proceeds t<> break the ground or
occupy any of the highways of the city.

Sec. 4. In case of accident to the
electrical equipment, animal or any
other motive power may Ire used tempoarily.
Sec. 5. The space between the tracks
and eighteen inches outside of the rails
shall Ire kept in good Condition and repair,
so as to conform to the condition of
the balance of the street upon which the
road runs, and satisfactory to the Mayor
and Town Council during the life of this
franchise; and in case the same alia 11 not
he kept in a state of repair satisfactory
to the said Mayor and Town Council the
same may be repaired bv the Town and
the expenses of such repairs shall be
chargeable to the street railway.
Sec.' 6. The cars on said railway

Skc. 9 The right is hereby reserved
to have water and sewer mains laid, as [
the public may require; hut if it should
he necessary at any time to take up and
temove any part of said tracks for the
purposes above mentioned then the same
shall he replaced as promptly as may he,
and in as good condition as found, at the
expense of the party for whose benefit
thev were removed j and before any ?uch ii
removal the railway shall he securely in- j(

is made. When the streets are 7

tension and operation to Monarch Cotton
Mills. Excelsior Knitting Mills, and the
public benefits to he derived therefrom,
the Mayor and Town Council hereby T
waive and remit t the said I,. G. Young,
his associates and assigns, any and all
license tax, or fees that may now or at
any time thereafter be assessed upon or r
against the said railway, not relieving t
the said C G. Young, his associates and
assigns, of any property tax to which
they may be liable.
Sf.c. ii. All policemen when on duty
and in full uniform shall be allowed to
ride on any of the cars of said railway
free of charge within the Town limits.
Sf.c. 12. The powers and privileges
hereby granted shall not vest until the
said L. G. Young, his associates and as- Ii
signs, shall have accepted a formal ac- ^
ceptance, in wiiting, of the provisions of
this ordinance, agreeing to comply witn
