he permitted to sell from any other place.

and the like, without the privilege of selling fish
or oysters, shall pay a license of fifty (V>0.00)
dollars per year, and shall have a fixed place of

town of Union, S. C., to grant said vendor a permit
to sell said meat without license.

license or amount therein specified in advance,
and each and every person, firm or corporation
giving, showing, or attempting to give or show
any of the performances, shows or exhibitions
without having received and puid for their li- i
cense to do so, and any person or persons, firm j
or corporation violating uny part or parts of this
ordinance, shall be subject to and for and re- '
ipiircd to pay a line of not less than one dollar i
per day for each and every day so offended, or
not more than one hundred dollars per day or to
lie imprisoned and made lo work on the streets
and public places of the town for not more than
thirty days for oncli day so offended, and at the
di-cretion of the Mayor or Town Council.

lie it ordained by (lie Mayor ami Aldermen of
Union, S. C. in Council assembled and by the
authority of same:
That a lax to cover the expense of said town
of Union, from the first day of Mav, l!?Ot, to the
first dav of May ltmr> be levied end collected in
manner and form as follows:
Skc. i. That a tax of one and two thirds (1 2-8)
mills upon every dollar of the value of all real
estate, personal property and stock in trade is
hereby levied for a Sinking bund to redeem
bonds.
Skc, 2. That a tux of three and one-third (3 1-3)
mills upon every dollar of the value of all real
estate, personal property and stock in trade. Is
hereby levied to pay interest on water works,
electric lights, water improvement and sewerage
bonds.
Sec. :i. That a tax of ten (in) mills upon every
dollar of the value of real estate, personal property,
and stock in trade Is hereby levied to meet
Ihe ordinary expellees of municipal government
of said town for the fiscal year beginning the
first day of May ISHM.
Sec. I. That the sum of two (2) dollars be
fixed as a commutation for the street or road
duty, and the said sum to be paid by all able
bodied male persons able to perform or cause to
be performed the labor herein required, between
the ages of eighteen (18) and fifty (50) years,
who reside within the corporate limits of said
town, except ordained ministers and those exempt
by law, and any person liable to this tax,
who shall fail to pay within the time specified,
shall be required to work on the streets of Union
four days under the direction of the street overseer,
and any person failing either to pay said
commutation or perform said labor, shall be
brought before the Mayor's court and, upon conviction,
shall he fined in a sum not exceeding
ten,(10) dollars or imprisonment not exceeding
twenty (i?) days, either or both
Skc. 5. That one-half of the taxes herein
levied and assessed shall be due and collected in
the month of May, 1004, and the remaining half
shall he due and collected during the month of
Sue. tt. That the Town Clerk and Treasurer
shall proceed to collect one-half of the taxes
herein levied, and that he shall keep his books
open front the first day of May next to the first
day of June 1WM, for this purpose; after which
lime he shall proceed by distress or otherwise,
as prescribed by law, t.> collect such as remains
unpaid wjth a penalty of twenty (20) per cent,
and cost of collecting added..
See. 7. That the town Clerk and Treasurer
shall reopen his hooka and keep them open from
the first day of October next to the first dey of
November, HUM, for tho purpose of collecting
the remaining half of the taxes herein levied,
after which time he shall proceed by distress or
otherwise as prescribed by law to collect such as
remains unpaid with a penalty of twenty (JO)
