Wo have recently formed the ac
iuaintancc of an aged lady, Mrs.
>ina N. Beard, age 81 years, whom
we are verv mnr.h interested in
Mrs. Beard is the daughter of the
late .Gordon and Sallie Moore, of
York county, S. C.
Gordon Moore was a son of John
Moore, an old revolutionary soldier.
Mrs. Moore was a Miss McKie, a
^rand daughter of W. Thompson, of
Spartanburg, and a niece of the late
Mrs. Nancy Beaty, wife of Col. Bob
si t Beaty of Union, and Mrs. Nar3is8ia
Ottcrson, wife of Dr. Otterson.
of Limestone, all of whom ,are dead
It is really interesting to listen to
Mrs. Beard relate her family history
ind other incidents of her life. Iler
nisband, Lieutenant W. S. Beard, of
lie 7th State Reserves served under
Col. W. B, Wilson 7th Regiment
deserves during the Civil War. He
jelonged to the City Guards at
Charleston at the time of his death
vhich occurred in the year 1803.
Mrs. Beard's father, Gordon Moore,
vas born in York counry where he
esided and owned considerable propsrty.
W. S. Beard was the son of
loseph and Elizabeth Beard of East
Tcnn., Washington county. I have
>een somewhat lengthy with Mrs.
leard's family history, but 1 think
hat it will be interesting to many as
Mrs, Beard has a great many relaivos
in Union, Cherokee and York
bounties.
Besides Mrs. Beard there were six

Dr. J. G. Moore, Mrs.

rin, of Rome, Ga., C- G. S'ucky, of
Spartanburg, and Dr. Jacob A
loore. Of the seven, only one, the
ubject of this sketch, is living.
Vnd right here it would not be
miss to state that Mrs. Beard has
utlivcd all of her children except
ne, Mrs. Mary Harvey, of Blacks
urg, with whom she is now residing.
This dear old mother's heart is still
leaking over the loss of her son,
V. T, M. Board, who died at Ilood'own
on the 7th of September, 1003,
f typhoid fever at the ace of 47.
Mrs. Beard is a wonderfully pre
urved old lady and while she re ilses
that the summons to cross over
lay come at any time, she still takes
great interest in the doings of the
resent time. She speaks of old
iends and relatives in Union
nd expresses a desire to visit them
once more, and we see no reason
why she sheuM nof. She writes a
plain hand and makes heaotiful capiruls
Tor one of her age. She is well
versed in the history of revolutionary
times and can .point out
people who are direct descendants
of our forefathers, and also torios.
Ilcr grandmother, she says, lived six
weeks in a chestnut tree in hiding
from the tories. She also told me
of a tract of land that was granted
to them by King Gcorgo III, but
I have forgotten just how that went.
She has in her possession a family
record of the Moores, that was written
during revolutionary times, but
owing to it oid age, only a very
little of it can he read. Here are a
few that we were able to make out,

our Lord about two oclock in the

"Megly Moore was born September
the 20th day in the Year of our
Lord 1875 about five in the tnornI?
ing.
One birth is recorded as occurring
in the year 1775. another in 1782,
another in 1778 and another which
I can not make out.
