PRESENT/IENT OF OKAND JURY. '
To His Honor. Clias. G. Dantxler, 1
Presiding Judge, June Term of
j Court, Union, tf. C.
The Grand Jury beg leave to make
the following report:
We have passed upon all bills given
us by the Solicitor, fiiteen in all, and
have found true bills 'n eleven cases,
and no bills In four cases. The
Grand Jury deplores the fact thut1
human life is so cheap in our county,
as well as nil over the country. Thr?e
murders have been committed la our
county since last court?an interval
of only live months. Wo would be
glad to be able to suggest some plan
by which so much bloodshed could
be prevented. If the handy hip
pocket pistol could be banished from
the land, murders would certaiuly
cease to a great extent.
We were pleased to report at the
January term of court that the
County Commissioners had erected
several substantial bridges in the
county, but we aro sorry to learn
bhat several of the bridges have been
carried away by the recent heavy
Hoods. We hope and believe that
the County Commissioners will be
ible to meet the condition of affairs
bo the best interest for the public
^ood.
As we visited tho Poorhouse, Jail,
Stockade und Dispensary at the .January
term, we deem it unnecessary
to visit these institutions at this
term.
We have appointed a special committee
to examine the books of all
tho county officers during the interim
and will report on their condition at
the next term of court.
Thanking your Honor and the Solicitor
for the courtesies shown us,
we are Respectfully,
W. H. S. Harkis,
Foreman.

Jonbbville, June ?.?We are
having good weather for the crops and
farmers are unusually busy and wi'l

last week wai quite heavy in thh

bottoms have been swept away, but
it i3 not too late to plant over. Some
of the bottoms, however, have been
greatly damaged by the frediet.
The bridge at Grindall was swept
away, at d the store house of Mr. R.
W. Hamilton went also. Mr. J N.
Eison moved bis household goods out
and took quarters in the Presbyterian
church. I understai d the water was

dwelling.

The second floor upstairs will contain
commodious office rooms for rent,
and the third story will probably bo
a large hall, also for rent. Mr. Wagnon
sold out his business interests
the first of this year and entered into
the active ministry. In a short whilo
he developed a severe chronic sore
throat, in spite of continued treatment
he grew worse and worse. At
last he went to Atlanta and consulted
I)r. Calhoun, the famous throat
I specialist. Dr. Calhoun held out no
hope for a permanent cure except
upon condition that he leave the
ministry. This Mr. Wagnon has decided
upon. Mr. Young is Mayor of
Union, and has been for many years
a prominent merchant here, doing a
large grocery business. The new
concern will start out with bright
