Italian strikers made a demonstration
today before the diggers ?j|d shovelers

water works improvements in the borough
of Brooklyn, and. succeeded in
driving them from their work. The
latborers on the dam for Contractor

their satisfaction wtih the wages paid

strikers have harassed the McDonald
contracts, and especially along the
Bubway, said they would drive the

The flrst laborers to start to work
were hooted and howled atT A few
stones were thrown, and as the number
of laborerers increased, a leader
in the crowd of strikers shouted a
phrase in Italian and a dash was made <
upon the works. The laborers drop- (
ped their tools and fled. ,
Not wishing to mix with the police, (
who had been called, the strikers dispersed.
The police kept all strikers
moving today all along the route of

Quaint crowds composed of peas- ,

The real reasons for the visit
were the part taken by Emperor William
in assisting the J!ono:lletine institutions
In P. usiia, and the promise
which he made to visit the celebrated
Mother House here. Gorgeous
equipages with outriders uad postilions
In hunting livery occompanled by military

the peasants. At the abbey a detachment
