New York, May 5.?Several hundred Italian strikers made a demonstration today before the diggers ?j|d shovelers employed on the Muscodt^dam at the water works improvements in the borough of Brooklyn, and. succeeded in driving them from their work. The latborers on the dam for Contractor John B. McDonald had announced their satisfaction wtih the wages paid and they would not Btrike. But the strikers have harassed the McDonald contracts, and especially along the Bubway, said they would drive the men from the trencheB, and they appeared at the dam several hundred Btrong. The flrst laborers to start to work were hooted and howled atT A few stones were thrown, and as the number of laborerers increased, a leader in the crowd of strikers shouted a phrase in Italian and a dash was made < upon the works. The laborers drop- ( ped their tools and fled. , Not wishing to mix with the police, ( who had been called, the strikers dispersed. The police kept all strikers moving today all along the route of the subway. They had 400 pickets , along the works.
