many of the veterans and of many of
the good ladies of those years ot the

at the capital of the State I often see
tilings t' at are of too little importance
to be written of except b7 a correspondent
of our paper, so I take the pleasure
of trying to tell of some of those little
things.
Columbia has been rather quiet after
her Fair week gayeties, but things are
beginning to liven up on account of the
approaching Christmas holidays. It is
now safe to venture out with a "plug"
ha> wilhout fear ol rubber balls and 00:1
felti. The tin hums and leather dusters
have been thrown away and policemen
an- again seen on the streets.
The building fever is still raging in
Columbia. Ail over the city residences
and business houses ufe 1 ring erected.
They range from the smallest cottage to
the big twelve story building on Main
street.. This big building wiil lie the
citj-'s iirst sky rcraper. The foundations
are In-ieg laid with all possible haste the
work going on day and night. The
streets cloce by ate almost choked by tlie
dirt from the mine-like excavation. The
building will l>e constructed of steel framing,
prts'ed brick and stone and will be
entirely lire pioof.
Thursday of last week the people of
Columbia saw one of the hardest fought
foot ball games that has been plaved in
this .Stale The St. AlbaneCollege of
ll.idlo.ii, Va., was defeated h> the 8 C.
Coih-ge team by :t score of live to 7. mo.

St. Albane. This makes an enviable
leeoul for Carolina. >he has pla>ed and
won live games, Chanson being the only
team thai has lieen aide to score a point,

The election passed off quietly in f

everything harmonious. ?
There were a great many going to a
the State Fair from this place. The c
depot agent sold fifty tickets in one 1
day, and tickets gave out and, some
had to go without any. But they 4
went and came all the same.
The Lockhart train makes two trips
a day to this place, so any one
wishing to go to Lockhart and return
the same day can do so now.
Mr. Editor, please excuse and correct
mistake in mv last letter in an
sawcr to Mr. Vox's mathematial
question about the cluck as be
wanted to know at what time between
5 and 0 o'clock will the hands
of a clock be at right angles to each
other. You made it im5 when it
should have been at directly 6 not at
5 nor no where between but at 0
directly. Moxv.
[That would be a rather funny
right angle, it strikes us. The cor-,
rcction is worse than the error.? Ed.]
