SPRINGS NEWS.
This community is under a cloud !
of sorrow, caused by the death of ono
of its best citizens, Mr. M. M. Sumner,
who died from heart disease,
Friday, July 11th. Mr. Sumner was ;
laid to rest in Putman graveyard the
following day in the presence of u
large concourse of friends and relu- |
tives. Mr. Sumner was a staunch
and consistent member of the I?aptist
church, and his place cannot be
asily filled.
On last Thursday a mad dog caine
through this neighborhood biting
dogs right and left and scaring people
generally, The dog came down
the road from toward West Springs.
I hear that it bit dogs of J. M. West.
G. T. Hyatt, Wm. Smith and John
Burgess. The news soon spread that
there was a mad dog out and everybody
was watchine for it. As it
passed through my place Mr. Arthur
Hyatt saw it coming and made ready
his gun, but the dog did not come hy
the house as lie expected, but turned
across the field, when Mr. Hyatt followed
it and got one shot at it, but
the dog wont its way soon to de killed
by W. D. Lancaster.
The measles are in our midst again.
This time the families of Mr. \V. .).
F. Mayes and Mrs. Susen A. Hyatt
are the sufferers.
We have a young married man in
this community who is living at home
and boarding at the same place (Mr,
Barnett Lancaster) despite the short
corn crop last year ho raised enough
to do him after paying fattening
meat enough to do him and some to
ell, and all on a one horse farm.
I was delighted last Saturday
morning to be brought from sweet
"slumber land" by the pattering of
' rain, which continued for some two
hours and now the air is co >1 and
fresh and the peoplo feel and the
crops look much better,
