I will take up Jeff Hughes again th

squall, "whoo-pee, whoo pee, bring of
me a boat to take me across this it

water there. Col. Shingler, who had sa
an idea what was up, told Capt. Mc- hi

house till morning to keep him quiet.
Cant. McKissick called Gid and said S;
to him: "Take Jeff to the guard M

was about as drunk as Jeff was, or, rn
maybe a little more so, but didn't of

Gid said "very well, but bo in a sli

and stayed, and stayed, until Gid got th

"all right, in one minute I'll bo th

for at least two hours when finally S;
Gid told him he just had to go. tli
When they started Jeff said to Gid, it
"you go on ahead and I'll follow, j h<
