One of the most remarkable instances
of the escape of a white man from the
Indians was that of John Colter. :t famous
hunter and trapper. On the day
in question he and his companion wore
surrounded by 000 savage warriors.
The companion was instantly kilh-ti,
and Colter was captured. His foes had

They wanted the sport of putting
