Sheep averaged GO cents lower In the Chicago market for 1001 than they did for 1900. The prize winning Hereford beeves at the Chicago live stock exposition, which sold for $12 per hundredweight, were Texas cattle finished off ou Ohio corn. A car containing 1,200 bushels of wheat was unloaded nt a western flour mill a short time ago. We can all recall the time when 000 bushels of wheat was considered a big carload. Milk dried and powdered is a new product which is attracting some attention. It is claimed for it that it will keep indefinitely in any climate, is easily handled and contains all the nutritious properties of liquid milk. Some wise man notes that high priced corn and healthy hogs almost always go together, the inference being that if the hogs were fed less corn they would not be so subject to disease. There may be something in this. The mounted head of an old fashioned long horned Texan steer will Inside of ten years he almost as difficult to obtain as the head of a buffalo bull. The white faces and the doddies are driving the Texns steer out of existence. When clover will do bo much to renovate and redeem the farm, why don't more men bow It? It's hard to tell. The many don't know and won't learn; some get discouraged and quit becauso their seeding fails; the few stick to It, build their soils up and make money. We saw a stack of clover hay lately 80 feet In length, 16 feet wide at tho base and 8 feel in height from the ground to the apex of the roof. Clover hay In that locality was worth $7 per ton in the stack. How much did that man lose by building bis stack io this manner? A friend tells us that be successfully fruits his strawberry bed for Ave years in succession. This may l?o done possibly with a small bed, but where the bed is large It is every way better to fruit two years and then plow up. We find it less troublo to set out a new bed than renovate an old one. A farm boy made openings In the loft of a barn so that the sparrows could find a sheltered place to rcost In cold weather. They quickly tumbled to the snap, and after they were once wonted It was an easy matter to close the opcuings after they had gone to roost and catch them with a dip net The aged farrow cow is a canner by predestination, but sometimes falls to work out her destiny, and a lot of kindly disposed persons In the community are innocently compelled to ent her up ns prime steer fed beef. It does not seem so bad when a Chicago picnic party works her up with beer and pretzels. A western farmer suggests the removal of the barb used on wire fencing and the use of a mild current of electricity generated by dry battery an a substitute therefor, claiming that the light shock produced by contact with I he wire would soon educate all kinds of stock to keep away from tire wire fence.
