sample of ore 'found on lifs p'ace that
fairly sparkles with sulphovet. wincli is .
said to carry both gold and silvt-r. An
expert, Mr. J. J. Hardin, formerly Jof
Pennsylvania, now of Spartanburg, went
to Mr. Bailey's place aud examined the
rock and said that this rock could carry
anywhere from $5.00 to $25.00 per tun.
He said it was good to say the least, but
could not tell until an assay was made
as to the quantity of gold or silver. Mr.
Bailey says he is going to send half a ton
of it to Atlanta and have an act ual te st
made as to the quantity it will yield per
ton. Mr. Bailey Rays if it yields in paying
quantities he is tixed as he has plenty 1
of it.

A public meeting of the legal voters '
in Union school district and returning

Broke Dirt Monday.
I
Diit was broken last Monday on the
foundation' of the Aetna Cotton Mill
which Mr. W. H. Sartor is to build near
town. Mr. J. B. Smith is the oivil
engineer in charge of construction. Mr.
Smith is a famous mill builder, having
built quite a number of mills in this
section in the last two or three years.
He says he is going to push the work to a
a finish as soon as the material arrives, s
and if he is kept supplied with material
expects to nave tne mill ready to begin 1
work by the first of November. The
mill will front the railroad, only 100
ft et distant. The frontage will b8 228
feet by a depth of 78J feet. A spur
track is to be laid in tront and rear of
the mill which will be quite oouvenient.
The track in the rear will terminate on
a trestle near the boiler room, making
an excellent and convenient coal dump:
The mill is to be two stories high, is to
have two towers, one 15 04 x 13.04, the
other 18.04 x 10.04. The boiler and
engine room will be 80 7 x 41.05. The
water for the mill will be supplied
partially from the city stand pipe aud
partially from a stream below the mill
supplied by a bold spring. The pump
house will be built near the rear of the
boiler room, and will'be 17.1 x 14 10
A ootton ware house is to be built 50 x
100. There is sufficient roniq on the
town side of the thill coextend the bud ting,
when found npceasarv, to double its
Bize. The excavation if* light and hardly
amounts to more than levelling np the
ground- This can be done inside of ten
days, when the work of laying the
foundation will begin. Seventy-five to
one hundred hands *111 be put to work
and the work will be pushed rapidly from
the start. l
The mill will be rquippn-1 with a 1
modern improvements in the way of a
fire protection, hot and cold air apparatus,
humidifiers, etc. The mil! will be
a 10,000 spindle mill, and will make j am
