L Ilicks liad h policy in fore* in tlie Equitable Insurance Company foi $2,000. He also had a policy in Uw New York Life for $5,000, but unfortunately had only paid one premium and the time for the other premium having lapsed, this policy, of .course, was not in force at his death. The following masons acted as pall hearers at the burial of Mr. J. L. Hicks: T. C. Duncan, B. F. Arthur, W. P. Thomson, A. N. Vice, L. M. Jordan and L. N. Rodger. Where To Get The Minutes. I have the minutes of the Union Couuty Association, will apportion them and those for the churches at Second Union, Jonesvllie, Puiman, Philippi, Lock hart, Sulphur Springs. West Springs and Mt. liflkiuon will be left at the store of Mr. II. F. Scaife, ami the clerk or some one autliorhied to do s<v can call and get them any tiine after the 19th. 1 liope the churches will appreciate my motive in leaving theui with Mr. Scaife for distribution. Fraternally, E. \V. Jeter, Clerk of Association. Veterans Displeased. There is considerable dissatisfaction expressed by tlie old veterans regarding the new requirements of the law. which says the applications must be signed by the applicant and two witnesses. It does seem to be rather a superfluity of red tape. Some of the old vets are decripid and not able to huut up witnesses. Their applications are already signed by witnesses, some of whom are dead and gone. In some instances it mav be there are no survivors of a com. pany outside of the applicants for pensions. It would certainly be unjust to deny them tlieir pension money under such circumstances. ? Domestic Animals. We have just received Census Bulletin No. 17, which gives a tabulation of all domestic animals in barns and inclosures not on.farms or ranges. This report covers every State and county in the United States. We And the following credited to Union county: Number of enclosures reporting, domestic animals, 238; all meat cattle, 268; calves under 1 year, 38; steers 1 year and under 2, 6; heifers 1 and under 2 yeais. 2; dairy cows 2 years and over, 222. It seems by the above that the heifers and steers under 2 years are rather a Rcaroe article around Union. The above however, has reference to those in barns and enclosures, and very few of these kind are kept up. Ilorses, 181; mules, 87swine, 47; goats, 8. The comparative statement shows for South Carolina in 1900, neat cattle, 14,B29, as against 39,404 in 1870, a pretty big falling off in 20 years. Horses 9,798 in 1900. and 9.947 in 1870. Onlv a slight diffeience in the number of horses, but the difference here, too, is to the advantage of 1870. *m Lockhart laconics. Lockhart, Jan. 15.--On the 1st Sunlay in January ltev. D. C. Freeman tendered his resignation as pastor of Lockhart Baptist Church which was accepted. He has also resigned at the >ther churches that he served last year, which leaves Lockhart, Mt. Joy, Phillipi and Jonesville at present without a pastor. Who will serve us for the pressnt year does not as yet appear, but we are hopeful that we will secure tlie services of some good man. It can be said truly of the retiring pastor that he served us faithfully and never at any time let the banner of the Master trail in the lust. He set the cause of Christ high *nd lived a life consistent to his high sailing. What will be our loss will be Union's gain. Some of The Times' subscribers have called "Homo" to task for not writing [>ftener. In excuse let me add that "procrastination is the thief of time" snd it has been so in my case, for very rften I wait until the last evening to write and then possibly some circumitance will knock all my calculations into a oocked hat. Died, on the 6th inst. of a complication of diseases, Mrs. M. J Alexander, in the 56th year of her age. Her remains were buried at Bullock's Creek cemetery. York county. She was the wife of Mr. J. S. It. Alexander, who since lier death has moved to a planta tation on Tyger river. Mr. L. L. Robinson, who was a salesman in Lockhart and resigned bis position some four years ago, has returned to the same position which was made vacant by the advancement of Mr. M. E. Griffin to the position of outside overseer the same having been made vacant by the resignation or Mr. J. H. Wilbum. The millinr y and dressmaking department of i/ockliart store has been discontinued for the season, and Miss Katie Balrd and Miss Belle Plaxioo have returned to their homes, the former to Richmond. Va., and the latter to Hoodtown, 8. C. Mr. J. I* Evans has received bis oomuifertca a? Magistrate <*? Look hart, and the drat work he did in an official capecity was the uniting of Mr. Andrew Green and Miss Leltha Tjowenr in the bonds of matrimony on the 10th inst. The Squire regards this as a lucky omen from the fact that bis first official act was that of peaoe where there were no difference of opinion, both parties oeing satisfied with the deofsion of the oourt with no vs. between their names. Messrs. W. K. Livingston and W. C. Johnson expects to leave tomorrow on a pleasure trip to Florida. Per Imps they will taks in Cuba before they return.
