Mr. W. J. Sexton, who has for several
j ears been elerking for D. L. McLaughlin,
has given up his situation to
take a business course in Spartanburg
Business College. He left the first of
this week to begin his studies.
Mr. Gilliam Thomas died at his
father's home some 5 or 6 miles South
of Union Tuesday night. Mr. Thomas
was about 20 years of age and had been
an invalid all his life. He was a brother
of Messrs. Haskelll and Kemp Thomas,
of Union. The remains were intered at
-Chapel Wednesday in the presence
of a number of friends and relatives.
Mr. W. R. Lyrley, former yard master
at Union, and Mr. J, R. Dickert,
conductor on the U- G. S. B. R.,
have exohanged places. Mr. Lyrley is
now conduotor and Mr. Dickert la yard
master. We oongratulate Mr. Dickert
on his promotion. Mr. Lyrley has made
a good yard master and we have no
doubt he will give satisfaction in his new
place.
A Mr. Trot man, one of the briok
masons at Buffalo, was in Mr. W. A.
Smith's room, over Mr. Cohen's store,
talking to some friends. When he left
he stumbled and fell down the steps,
striking his head against the door facing
at the bottom, cutting an ugly gash
which bled profusely, It was thought
for some tiipe that he had killed himself,
but he was soon pulled around to consciousness
and was all right in a few
hours. This happened Monday noon.
Policeman Brock has nabbed a negro,
after a long chase, who baa been hang
ing around Union, and roosting on top
of the boilers at the power bouse several
nights. He says he is from dewberry
but lias uot been borne for a long time.
He stole a hat from one of the workmen
( at the power house. The man took the
hat back off the negro's head, aud now
the thief is resting behind the bars. Mr.
Brock is a regular sleuth, and when he
gets after a nig, the nig had as well
pull in bis sails.
