M. Mounier, the well known Trench
Asiatic traveler, vouches for the truth
,of tho followlug story of how his
friend, Hop Sing, a traveled oriental

on ouo occasion sorely victimized. IIop
Slug lived In the street of the roasted

istroet as any iu all l'ekiug. '.I've local
mandarin was an intimate friend of
his, and Hop Slug availed himself of
this friendship to press tho mandarin
; to have the street repaved. Certainly.
At once. The men would he at work
on it before Hop Sins had returned
home. A week passed, then another
visit, and so on, until, in despair. IIop
Sing determined to have the street repaired
at his own expense. The work
was satisfactorily completed.
The surprise of Hop Sing wn:; o my
equaled by bis indignation wlicn. on
awaking one morning, he found a gang
of eoolies upheaving the newly Hugged
street. Ills surprise grew when lie
heard from the mandarin's own lips
that the meu were there at his orders.
"You see. mv dear friend." snM ti<n
mandarin, "I nm expecting the head

Now, if lie were to see the beautiful
pavement you have laid down in your
street ho would come to the conclusion
that there was money about, a ?l ho
would assuredly blood every vein In

Don't you see why your pavement
really must come up? It cost nie one
fortune to secure my post. I dou't
want to spend another in keeping It."

Town Comilp,
It is generally agreed that the small
town is a pleasant place to live in, except
that there is always a great

respects? Arc the small towns of the
country to be made undesirable as
places of residences to please a lot of

Rheumatic pains are the cries of protest
and distress from tortured muscles aching
joints and excited nerves. The biood has
been poisoned by th.r accumulation of
waste matter in the system, and can no
longer supply the pure "and health sustaining
food they require. The whole system
feels the effect of this acid poison ; and
not until the blood has been purified and
brought bark to a healthy condition will
the aches and pains cease.
