was one of the features of the day Xmas.
This is a very cruel sport, and we are
sorry mat some ot our citizens couiu
not find sufiicie .t amusement without
indulging in this sport.
A Christmis tree at tho Second Graded
School building Saturday, an l one
af. the Second Methodist Church, were
.among the festivities of Xtnas. Both
were loaded with presents to tin great
delight of the little folks.
The Misses Goforth had a pretty
Christmas tree at their home on Church
street Wednesday night. A large number
of children were present and enjoyed
the occasion immensely. The tree was
loaded with presents. Mr. West assumed
the role of Old Santa and delivered
the presents from the tree to the
great delight of the little folks, many of
whom thought lie was the real Santa
Clans of whom they had heard so much.
The Wonder Store was certainly a
wonder to behold the three days during
Xmas. Tho crowd of customers and
sight-seers formed a surging mass of
humanity from front to rear, but then
there were so many pretty girls clerking
there, it is small wonder that the Wonder
Store did a wonderful business.
The laughing, walking, talking and bus
tling, rosy cheeked dolls were among
the greatest attractions.
One nig was bigged at the Wonder
Store and put in the lock-up for appropriating
a lino cup and saucer. lie
went into the store prepared for business
and he did not Waste time. He
had an empty basket on his arm and
lK)gan operations as soon as ho entered,
by hooking a China cup and saucer near
the front. Mr. Rice who saw him
raised some objections to this method,
and turned him over to the police, and
he will probably help improve the streets.

Machinery for the New Mill.
It is an assured fact that Union is
to have auother large cotton mill.
The plant will contain 10,000 spindles,
and employ 250 operatives and have a
capital stock of $200,000 George A.
Gray, of Gnstouia, the well known
mill man, will have entire charge of
the erection and equlmcnt of this
plant. The main building will he two
stories high, J00 x 225. It will contain
six pickers, 2-1 f>>rty-inch revolving
top cards, 12 drawing frames, two
slubbers, four intermediates, 12 line
frames,-11 spindles frames, 22S spindles
each ; 19 spoolers, of lit) spindles :
22 twisters, 22-1 spindles; 10 roels, 5C
spindles : 1 cone winders of 100 drums
each, and two warpers Contracts for
machinery have been let, and tlui

Our friend Mr. A. R. Eskridge dropped
in to see lis one day this week
and he brought a package along with
him which lie presented to us with his
compliments. It was a box of fine cigars.
Well, if there is anything that
we are especially fond of it is a good
cigar, of course we don't always smoke
them ; a poor newspaper Editor has often
to content himself with a 2-fer or
do without. But now we have a whole
box full and arn't we going to enjoy
