The Boer envoys having failed utterly
in their mission to Washington,
so far as the government is concerned,
will start out to sec what impressi on
they can make upon the people by a
series of public meetings, the first of
which will be held in Baltimore, this
week, with others to follow in other
cities. They will possibly meet with
a more hearty reception.
A new fraternal insurance organization
has been started up in South
Carolina. The headquarters of the
Supreme Council will bo at Spartanburg.
This is the first time that
South Carolina has been selected as
the base of operations for an insurance
association. This will bo the
means of bringing a great deal of
money to Spartanburg from the various
subordinate organizations that
will spring up all over the country.

The firm of Price A- McCovrnick,
who were so influential in causing a i
large number of farmers to hold back r
their cotton the past season until
they realized a profit of several dollars
a bale, have failed for $10,000,(XX),
causing the heaviest shock to
the stock exchange in years. They 1
did the cotton grower much good but c
like most people who dabble in ''
futures, they did not seem to know j
when to hold up. It was learned t
that they were long of cotton on ft c
