Horse Killed by Train.
Mr. J. T. 'Cairol, a i ail road con actor,
met with an accident Monday

5# Attacked with Vertigo.
We are sorry to lea:u that our old
friend, Policeman Drayton Smith, was
attacked Tuesday morning about 10
o'cloek near Hailey's furniture storo with
vertigo and fell prostrate on the ground,
lie was taken into Mr. Bailey's shop
temporarily, from whence ho was moved
to Ins homo. The attack, while pretty
: severe, wo hojie that it will not result
. seriously. He is getting along very well
> at this time.
Our Post Office Business.
As an evidence of the rapid development
of our town we call attention to
f the fact that the business at the Union
Post Ofllce has increased very rapidly.
The past quarter's receipts at this ollice,
ending March .'51st, were in excess of all
) fonner receipts by several hundred dol,,
lars, and the month of March shows the
largest in the history of the Union Post
Ollice, this will raise the grade of the
ollice and increase the Post Master's
saleiy.

Did You See Them?
' Tuesday night about eleven o'clock a
| great drove of ducks passed over the
town going North. Those who saw
them say they were an hour in passing,
; and that they clouded the elements.
There must have been close upon a
million of them, no such sight has even
been witnessed in this town before. They ~
were coming from the coast. One of
them was killed by a policeman as they (
went over, bad they passed in daytime \
j no doubt hundreds of theua wo uld have
been killed.
Clifford Seminary.
The faculty and students arc now
in the inidst of hard work for commencement,
which will be from Muy
27th to yOlh.
The Baccalaureate sermon will be
delivered by Rev. Goo. II. Cornelson,
tho popular pastor of the Aiken Presbyterian
church. Tho literary address
will be delivered by l)r. James
M. Farr, of Johns Hopkins University,
Baltimore, Aid., but a resident of
Union.

Run Over By a Train. ,
Wednesday night when the passenger
train came in, one of the passengers,
a Chinaman, Lo Sing, who formerly
ran n laundry at this place, gol

before he got back, he ran and reached
main street crossing as the train
was passing; he attempted to gel on

It was found that the loft foot was
eru-hed, in addition to this there was
a compound fracturo of the left
anklo and a scalp wound. When
told that the member should be amputated
lie positively declined to allow
the amputation and said if they
s would kill a chicken und bind it to
| the foot it would be nil right in 24
r hours. The timputation jwus not
performed and Lo Sing waV taken to
Atlanta Thursday. lie says he
called to thorn to stop the train but
; they would not do it.
