has reaohed here thai Thomas Reynolds,
a farmer living near Williumston, has
been killed by bis son in-law, Josso
Moore. It seems tbat Reynolds became
intoxicated and threatened the murder
of his household. His wife sent for
Moore, who lived some distauco from
the Reynolds home. When Moore
oame and attemptod to pacify his
father-in-law the latter attacked him
with a shotgun and knife. Moore
^Trenched the gun away aud crushed
ft- Reynolds' skull with the stock.

cotton mill und electric plant, costing

of terror prevailed at Neece, a small
station of the Florida Central and Peninsular
railroad, Friday night nnd Saturday.
A gang of regnlators threatened
to exterminate the population of
the town and tho governor was wired
for assistance. He sent the sheriff of
Oruugeburg conuty to the scene of
trouble and held a company of militia
in readiness to leave at short notice, but
no farther trouble was reported.

court, in refasing to grant a new
trial and affirming the decision of the
lower court in the case of the stato
against John K. Stackey, sends that
merchant of Spartanburg to tho penitentiary
for ten years. His trial occurred
nearly a year ago. Stnckey
killed John Sevier, who had been in
bis employ. The prominence of the
defendant brought a recommendation
of mercy from the jury.

Cleveland, March 22.?After a terrific
battle with ice, the fireboat Clevolander,
carrying a large supply of provisions,
has succeeded in reaching the
two fishing tugs and the fireboat Farley,
which had been imprisoned in an ice
field here. The fishing togs started oat
from hero Monday evening for Huron
and were caught in the ice, from which
they conld not get free. The fireboat
Farley was sent to their assistance, but
she became jammed in tho ice and was
rendered helpless. The poworfnl fireboat
Olevelauder was started oat, and
after two hours' work succeeded in
opening a ohannol through ice lb inches
thick to the three vessels.
Thirty men all t6ld were on tho three
icebound vessels. They suffered intensely
from hunger and cold. There

imprisoned vessels when tliey left port.

Nebraska Platform Meets With Ueueral
Approval.
Washington, March 22.?The platform
adopted by the Democrats of Nebraska
is much discussed in Washing*
ton because of its presumed bearing
vpon the national platform. The fact
that Mr. Bryan in some degree outlined
this uttoranco of the Democrats of his
own state was sufficient cause for its
being much talked abonc.
Democratic leaders generally were
woll satisfied. There is some disposition
to feel that the Nebraska platform
does not go far enough in emphasizing
the fact that the traditional policy of
the Democratic party has boen for legitimate
expansion.
