The people are beginning to realize the fact that there is great necessity for better roads, and in some places steps bare been taken tp improve them. We want to see a movement j set on foot that will result in por? (J manent good. Let the people go to work and macadarai/9 the roads. It y will coat about 8600 to 8800 a mile c to do this, but when the work is done j it won't have to be done over agai n soon and in the long run will be much , cheaper than the present system of road j working. The people of York county > , have been experimenting along this line with satisfactory results. The experiment has also been made in > ome rections of North Carolina and hat proven successful. There is no , room to doubt the desirability of ma- . cad am roads, for wherever they have been tried they have proven to b1 a great blessing and the people would not do without thorn. We 1 hope the day is not far oil when every road in Union county will be raacad- ' amiied, tor this is the only practical remedy foi the present unsatisfactory ' condition of our public highways. A PERNICIOUS PRACTICE. It is a deplorable fact that the law | against carrying concealed weapons is to all practical purposes a dead lot ter. It is to be regretted that there are people in our civilized country who indulge in the unlawtul and j cowardly practice of carrying a pistol ; around with them.
