?Mr. John Scott, who has held a
clerkship with the Racket Store for
the past two years, will leave Monday
for Charlotte, where he has secured a

Bros. Mr. Scott is an energetic and
upright young man, and has many
friends in Union who will regret to
see him leave. We wish him si\ccest
in his now field.
?Sturdy Mike Lee, one of the pillars
of Bogansvillc, was in the city
Monday and reported everything
quiet in his hailiwick. He said the
heavy rains had thrown farm work
behind, and that the farmers would
not be able to prepare their land
thoroughly befoie planting time. Only
a small acreage of oats has been
planted, and the erop will be email
this year.
?Dr. Jeff. Reaves, who has had
charge of the prescription department
of the Union Drug Store for the past
two years, has resigned to accept a
similar position with the Paragon
Drug Co, of Asheville. He left Saturday
morning for his new field. Dr.
Reaves is a thorough pharmacist, and
his employer regretted to give him up.
He was quite popular in Union, and
his departure was generally regretted.
?Farmer Perry Duckett, of Whitmire,
was in the city Saturday and
informed us that efforts are being
made to establish telephonic communication
with Union. It is proposed
to run a line from Whitmire to Seda.
lia and connect with the line from
tbere to Union. We hope the scheme
will be carried out successfully, and
that we will soon be in cloeer communication
with our friends in that prosperous
section.
Mrs. C. C. Davis Dead.
The many friends of Mrs. C. C.
Davis will regret to hear of her death,
which occurred at her home near Wilkinsville,
in this county, on the 6th
inst. While Mrs. Davis has not been
having good health for some time, the
immediate cause of her death was
gripMrs.
Davis was a grand daughter
of the late Rev. Thomas Ray, of Union
oonnty, her father being the late Wm.
Ray, who was once clerk of court in
Union, and was thus a member of one
of the oldest and most worthy families
in the State, f ho was a good woman,
devoted to home and family and performed
well the duties her high christian
character entailed. She loavei
her husband and several children who
have the sympathy of their neighbort
