The phrase "bundle of life" I heard many ' timet in my father's family prayers'. Fom ily-prayers you know, have frequent repetitions, because day by day they acknowledge about the same blessings and deplore about the same frntltios and sympathize with about the same misfortunes, and I do not know why those who lead at household devotions should seek variety of composition. Dleoouragements, jealousies, revenges, malevolences, disappointments, swindles, arsons, conflagrations and eruetttee, whloh make continued existence of the human race a wonderment. Was ever any valuable bundle ever so Imperiled as this bundle of life? Know, also, that this bundle of life will be gladly received when it comes to the door of the mansion for which it was bound and plainly directed. Well, what a day it will be when your precious bundle of life shall bo opened in the "house of mauy uiaualons," amid saintly and angelic and divine inspection! The bundle may be spotted with the marks of much exposure, it may bear Inscription after inscription to tell through what ordeal It has passed, perhaps splashed of wave and scorched of flame, but all It has within undhmaged of the Journey. And with what shouts of Joy the bundle of life will be greeted by all the voices of the heavenly home clrole. Will it not bo glorious, the going In and the settling down after all the moving about and upsottlngs of earthly experience? We will soon know all our neighbors, kingly, queenly, prophetic, apostolic, seraphic, arcbangello. The precious bundle or life opened amid palaces and grand marohes and acolamntlons. They will all be so glad wo have got safely through. They saw us down here In tha struggle. They saw us when we lost our way. They knew when we got off the right course. Oh, I cannot tell you how I feel about It, the thought Is so glorious. Bound up with Qod. Bound up with infinite meroy. Bound up with Infinite Joy. Bound up with infinite purity. Bound up with infinite might. That thought Is more beautiful and-plorlous than was the heroic Abigail, woo at the toot of the crags uttered, "Bound in the bundle of life with tho Lord thy Oodl" Now, my honror and reader, appreciate the value of that bundle. Bee that it is hound up with nothing mean, but with tbe unsullied and the Immaculate. At an election booth in Milwaukee avenue, the judge was a Qerman, whose worth as an American citizen is not marked by an extensive knowledge of the coui^ry of his adoption. He is, however, an active ward hustler, and aa such he always stands ace high with his party during campaigns. On election day a resident of the precinct called to cast his ballot. He was not known to the judge, and the latter asked: "Vhere vas you born?" "In Iowa," was the response. "Veil, let me se your papers," demanded the election official. Yet of the 8.700 Inhabitants of that great peninsular. 3,000 are of the white or mixed race. They mainly are descendants of English sailors, some of whom were shipwrecked and more of whom probrfbly left their ships without leave. Finding themselves stranded on this lonely shore, they made the best of their lot, marrying Eskimo wives and living after the manner of the country. In later times some Newfoundlanders chose rather to settle In Labrador than make the uncomfortable trips to and fro yearly from St John's for the annual codflshing off the. Labrador shores. They dwell In houses of stone or logs. In winter they wear hooded fur garments like the Eskimos; In summer the ordinary garb of Newfoundland fishermen. The women dress In gray or blue woollen stuff, with a gaudy gown for best On tlieh heads they wear a knit heod or n bright-colored handkerchief, and, it may be, at out-of-door work or abroad on the water, a man's sou'wester. Against the walls in their houses are pasted such pictures as 'they have been able to clip from the few newspapers that fall ii^ their way, advertising lithographs that have come with goods to the trading stores, and pictures of thes ort issued by tract societies. On the table or shelf in the living room Is always a Bible, religiously read on Sunday when the cod are not biting or a fare of fish to be dressed and flaked. It is a devout and sober-minded community, that of the whites along the coast of Labrador. Their religious ministrations are provided by the Moravians, who have several missions in Labrador; their temperance is assured by stringent laws forbidding the landing of any lhfrors In Labrador, and these are made effective by a thorough patrol by the Dominion revenue steamships, which deal Inexorably with smugglers of strong water.
