On Inst Friday evening a negro named Glutrlie tiiles made an attempt to ravish a highly respectable young married lady about three miles south of Fnion. We are happy to state that he did not accomplish ids foul designs, lie was brought to Union on Friday night by a few men and safely lodged in jail. We have always endeavored to speak a good word for the negro and to stand up for his rights, hut the actions of such brutes as Charlie (Jiles disgusts us, and riles us to the quick, and we cannot blame the people on such occasions to take the law into their own hands. The actions of such brutes as Giles retards the progress and chances of improve- i merit of the whole negro race. Every decent negro should cry out against such deeds as vehemently as the white people. They are certainly stumbling blocks in the advancement of the negro race. We hate to write about and publish such deeds in Thk Timks, hut duty compels us. We sincerely hope the 'courts will give Giles the full penalty of the law.
