Union Cotton Mills.
A meeting of the directors of this
mill was held at their office .on the
IStli inst. Everything was found in
first class condition. W. B. 8. Wlialey
resigned from his position as director,
and President Emslio Nicholson, of
the Nicholson Bank, was elected to
till the vacancy. A special meeting
<>f the stockholders will be held on
(lie 27th inst.

Opening Streets.
The city council is opening streets
through the Dawk ins property. The
main street will run to the water standpipe.
It will makeqnitean improvement
in that, end of the city. It is proposed
to also run a street from the old Presbyterian
cemetery due east to the corporate
limits of the city and parallel with Main
street. Bight you are gentlemen in
opening up streets. It will enable our
country friends to come to town and buy
,i lot and build a house without spending
a fortune. The principal new street
opened up, we understand will be named
Dawkins street, after the late Judge T.
X. Dawkins.
The Water Works Boiler.
Groat trouble has been experienced
i?v various parties in endeavoring 10
get this boiler to its destination.
After (be water works men failed to
got il tiiere, Messrs. (J. C. May and
K. i>. Sharkey, contracted to carry it
lo the Harris Creek, but met with
many reverses and accidents, and at
last accounts had not reached the
designated spot or site. Up near

was upset and much trouble was hud

Alliance Heeting.
At a meeting of the Farmers' Alliance
iif Union county, held in the court house
an the 14th instant, the following resolutions
were passed:
Whereas, we lielieve that the low
price of cotton is not duo so much to
over production as is claimed, as it is to
the contraction of the currency and
speculation in futures, therefore be itResolved.
That we, the farmers of
Union county, tender our thanks to our
brother and congressman. J. Wm. Stokes
and his co-workers for their efforts to
passu law prohibiting the gambling in
cotton iuturcs and other products.
