McKissick returned to Asheville ou last Sunday after spending a week at his old home. Messrs Louis and Wallace McNeace are in Union. They came to attend the Icemen-McNeace wedding. Capt. J. C. Otts, of the Pea Ridge Rides called on us on Wednesday. lie is a strong believer in the militia. II. P. Mcki.ssick came in and renewed his subscription hist Thursday and says he has been taking Tiie Times ever since it was a ]Nii>er. Our old friend Berry Richards is in Union, and thinks of moving back , among us, if he can find a suitable home. May he be successful in his search. W. C. This company passed through Union in S]ieeiul car on Wednesday, enroute to the fair. Lieutenant lid want Eison, formerly of Union was with them* Thanks--Roasting Ears. We are indebted to Mr. James Brown for bag of nice roasting ears; the corn producing these ears, Mr. Brown informing us, was planted July 223. Boasting ears on November 5th is rather late. Streets. Union's streets are being put in first Class condition by the chaingang, under the etlicient management of T. K. Palmer. We are informed that is being done very cheaply. - ? A New Magazine. A new magazine, Southern Life, published at Nashville Tenn.. has made its api>earance at our oflice. It is a neatly gotten up magazine and is very creditable in every reflect. It is very cheap bnly ">0 cents per year. The cuts are Splendid. It is well worth the money. m ? The Pea Ridge Rifles. This company went down to Columbia on Wednesday to participate in the sham battle and other festivities of fair week. This company has splendid material in it for a lirst class company, and if its tnembers could devote the necessary time ?1 drilling etc. it would compare favorbly with any company in the State. The CTrcus, It has been proven that the Wallace Shows do not contain either diphtheria or measles and on their claiming to come to Union with a clean bill of health the town authorities will ]>ermit them to show here 011 the 17th inst. We are glad to note that it was a false alarm that went abroad that this circus had these contagious diseases among it. It will certainly be hero on next Wednesday. Waterworks. * Work is progressing very favorably Upon tl)6 water woiks plant We are informed that the reservoir is about excavated, and that work on the foundation for the stand pipe is being carried on. An immense amount of piping has arrived. Everything deems to be moving Along nicely. rUrrlage. At the Leitner liopse, on Wednesday at 11.30 o'clock a. m.t Mrs. Irene J. Jieitner, of Union whs married to Mr. Clarence Lever, of Columbia S. C. llev. J. E. Carlisle officiated. The married couple left on the 1 o'clock train for Columbia to visit relatives and frieuds there, and to see the (front State fair. They will return to Union and run the Leitner house, so we are well informed. They have the best wishesof Tiie Times. Mr. Lemen holds tlie responsible t>osition of hook ktei**r for the Roanoke car shops. Mr. Icemen was accompanied by his father to Union. Only a few invited friends and relatives were present at the ceremony. Mrs. Lemen luts the best wishes of a large number of friends for her future happiness in her new home. She will carry the respect and esteem of a large circle of acquaintances and friends with her to her new home. The Times takes pleasure in congratulating her and extends its best wishes. __ m m A Beautiful Ceremony. On Wednesday at 11 o'clock a. m. one of the nicest marriages ever held in Union took place at the Methodist Church. The contracting parties were Miss Kittie Rice, of Union, and Mr. William Elliott, of Wiunsboro, S. C. Miss Rice is the youngest daughter of one of Union county's most highly esteemed citizens 8. M. Rice, and is very popular with all classes at home. The wedding party arrived at tho church, and to the sweet strains of Mendelssohn's famous wedding march rendered by Mrs. Rose on the orgau, McDermid on the violin and Ned Wallace on the pioolo, headed by the ushers viz: Messrs Peake, Lindsay, Duke and Norman, marched with military precision to their respective positions. Following the ushers came the bridesmaids, splendidly attiied and each one bearing a splendid and large bunch of chrysanthemums in her hand. They marched in single file up each aisle then crossed to the opposite side of the chancel, and remained in that position until the ceremony was concluded. The grooms* men followed the bridesmaids and marched similarly. The groom and his best man, Mr. Edward Uanahan marched up the right aisle of the church, and the in* tended bride and her maid of honor, Miss Agnes llloe, marched up the left aisle, they met just in front of the nltav when the groom took the bride and Mr. Ilanuhan remained standing with Miss Agnes Itice. The ceremony as conducted by the Rev. J. E. Carlisle was very impressivo. When the ceremony was over the attendants marched out to the front of the church where carriages were awaiting them to convey them to Mrs. Geo. C. Peirin's, a sister of the bride, where an elegant repast was served to the attendants, and a few invited guests, relatives and friends. The attendants wore as follows Edward Uanahan with Miss Agnes Ilice, Mr. Stevenson with Miss Meta Uriiuball, Mr. lleecc Ilarry with Miss Carrie Duncan, Mr- lliee Me? Norman and F. C. Duke. After the entertainment at Mrs. Perrill's home, the bridal party took fho midday train for Winnslioro, wherp they will make their future home. They have the best wishes of the many friends of the popular bride, and we hope that their days may be many and happy ones. ho for the Circus | The Great Wallace Shows, which will exhibit in Union Wednesday, November 17, appear to bo living up to their advertisements in every ros|ieot this season. The big shows recently visited Pittsburg, Pa., and the Times of that oity has the following words of praise to offer; The Great Wallace Shows gave the ft rat of two days' jierfoi niances here yesterday afternoon at Exposition Park, Allegheny, and a sujierior perfounance pas given. Especially good was the equestrnin work, the women sharing tlio honors with the men in this phase of the entertainment. Those consisted of menatre and ridincr acts, in which Miss Sallie Hughes, Miss Blanche lteed aiul Mine. Nelson were especially successful. Oscar Lowande, Joseph Leicher and lteno McCree also gave some remarkable specimens of trick riding. The l'etil family, three in number, undoubtedly carried off the honors in the aerial horizontal bar work, and later reappeared ill an extremely laughable aerial' act. Then there were high wire and bounding wire acts, in which M. ltowena and Miss Olga Heed were imrticularly good. Another good feature was the ballet of nations, between acts, executed on a platform slipjiery with mud and rain, but on which very graceful evolutions were j?erformed.
